The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

Never before do I think that a book has run so well along side its TV counterpart, this book sets the foundations for a series which is just what the world in its current state needs. It is harsh, scary, matter of fact and unforgiving - the perfect wake up call.

A slow burn until the final 100 pages when everything flips and motors ahead. Wouldn't re-read but did have enjoyable moments, and I would definitely consider reading the second installment.

Listened to as a dramatic reading, really brought the story to life. Definitely recommend reading the orginal version and not the one edited by Bysse Shelley, I feel the conflicted and sorrowful 'monster' makes a far more powerful point than that of an evil beast.

A much stronger seconf book where carter has learned an began to hone his craft. I really like the MO of the killer in this one and I was guessing all the way through.

Was well written and engaging, just wasnt the type of case or killer that intrigued me. Definitely still worth a read though.

This book was a hone rum for carter, complex purely weird in places confusing and putting you off the sent until the very moment he wants you to know the answers, the reader is a puppet in carters game. Definitely looking foreward to re-reading this in a couple of years.

Really enjoyed the killers MO in this one, it felt relevant and current, I felt like the order of the killing created a slight dip, with the first murder being far more shocking and gruesome than the second or potentially the third. I would have ordered the killings 2, 3 then 1. But still really enjoyable.

This book in the series was okay, on par with some of the other books, it just didnt gel with me as much as some of the others. Maybe this was because I was coming off of the high that is the incredible book six, so I was drawing comparisons.

This book was a dropped ball from carter in my opinion it just didnt click with me, the deaths seemed shocking for shocks sake and there were long breaks between action which made it a tricky book to get through, I would personally say you can skip this one, unless you're a series completionist like myself.

I dont reaolly have a lot to say about this one. I enjoyed its familiarity and writing style, but like with the caller there were a lot of pauses and an element of banality about some elements. To be honest most of this one hasnt stayed in my memory, apart from the cliff hanger that carter leaves us on, which I feel was a brilliant move, as it left the over all series so far with a thingling excitement for the next installment instead of a sigh and a 'well at least I read them all' feeling.
