Keeper by Nicole Dykes

This book was my first read from Nicole Dykes. I appreciated the pacing and overall writing style. It felt realistic, and I never found myself rolling my eyes. Camden finally putting himself first made my heart so happy. I was worried that we weren't going to get to see him live his best life, but I'm very pleased with his HEA. There's no cheating or drawn-out separations in this book. Just two best friends who were meant to be together all along.❤️

Would I read this book again if I could travel back in time? I think so, yes.

I can count on one hand the number of times a book made me cry. This book right here... got me good. Ugly crying in the car with my very confused family watching me. But they were tears of happiness. Romance almost takes a backseat to the concept of family and mending what was once almost irrevocably broken. This book was a delight to read, and knowing that the characters' lives go on in such a wholesome direction just made my cold little heart explode.

Not as exciting as Keeper. It had a very similar plot and feel; the golden retriever jock suggests a no strings attached fling, and the serious character whose life is dedicated to his family begrudgingly agrees. The MCs fear what their families would think if they ever came out, which keeps them sneaking around (valid). There are a few other similarities, but I don't want to spoil anything else. It wasn't bad by any means. Just a bit boring.

Would I read it again? Meh. Probably not.
Well I be reading the next book in the saga? Yes.

The beginning was rough. It felt pretty icky with no context or insight into Theo's past or feelings. I think maybe one chapter from his POV before the first "transaction" would have done wonders to make it feel less slimy. The repetitive self-destructive behavior was irritating after the fourth attempt to ruin everything. But overall, it wasn't a terrible book.

So good. Don't go into this expecting a "feel good" story with righteous characters. Everyone in this story had their flaws, which I really enjoyed. The very ending was a bit abrupt and left me wanting to know what happened next!
