TJR has done it again! I feel like everyone has been reading this book and waiting on anticipated pins and needles to get their grubby, little hands on it. I mean, I know I had! As nervous as I was to finally read a @tjenkinsreid book, once I had, I feel like I have created a monster within myself. I am ready and prepared to read them ALL!

Malibu Rising is the latest novel, freshly released this June. There is already a tv show in the works (of course!). It follows the lives of the Riva siblings during a 24 hour period in the 1980s. The thing I love about Reid and her writing, is how connected she bring her audience to her characters. And she does this all by writing in third person. It’s extremely impressive! She also writes about several other non main character, which you somehow feel also completely connected to too… as if you know these people or if you googled them they actually existed. All these small side stores tie together to make the bigger picture. We also glimpse into the past of where the Riva kids came from and how they grew up.
.
Even though I have read TJR’s other books, I did catch several Easter egg references. I love how she ties all her character together within the same world. It makes them feel alive.

Truly, this book lives up to the hype. It’s a must read, just like all her other books. So don’t hesitate any longer, get yourself a copy and read this one! You don’t want to be the only one who doesn’t know how Nina Riva’s house burned down!

Lucky is the story about two women, whose lives are connected by a house in Rhode Island. These women are from two different eras. The first is Rebekah Harkness. Her story is told from the early 1900s into the 1980s. The second is Rae Harmonia, pop superstar and global legend. Her story is present time. Both of these women’s lives show a constant struggle and search for happiness. Is money, fame, fortune, attention the key to true happiness?

This story is inspired by @taylorswift album Folktale. Specifically it was inspired by the song “Last Great America Dynasty”. Parro gives strong likeness to her characters to their real life inspirers (Swift and Harkness). Swifties will enjoy Easter eggs found within the story that they will know elude to Taylor herself. There are also other popular pop culture references within the story as well including mentions of Hamilton.

Bravo to @kristinaparrowrites first published writing! As a huge Taylor Swift fan, I could not wait to dive right into to this book and bought it immediately on release day. Kristina is also one of the sweetest humans! She is such a down to earth author, who truly loves to interact with her readers. I encourage you to read this novel if you are a Swiftie fan like myself. I also hope that @taylorswift herself will get her hands on this book!! I know Kristina is a huge Swiftie herself! I look forward to following Kristina on her writing journal and reading more books by her. This is only the beginning!

First, I want to thank Netgalley (@netgalley ) and Europe Comics (@europecomics ) for a free early copy of this graphic novel for my honest review and opinion.

Let me begin this review by stating that I had honestly never heard of this book before May. I didn’t realize it had such a popular and cult following. I didnt know it had so many 4 and 5 star reviews. This book was a buddy read with some of my favorite people: @laurenreads._ , @book.club.bitches , @literarysquirrel , @literaleah , and @cleverblondebooks . I’m not exactly sure how it was the book that we selected to read but basically it got selected, I ordered it, and all of a sudden this monster 800 page book showed up on my doorstep. I immediately was intimidated. This was going to take forever. In fact, I didn’t even really read what it was about until I had the book in my possession… oops?
.
After I did that, and we started the book journey that would take us 2 month or 84 years (whatever way you want to take it)to read, and I initially got kind of excited! I saw the reviews, I saw elements of LGBTQIA+, and it remind me of Game of Thrones… needless to say, I was in! I was oh so wrong. Soooooo wrong.
.
I hated this book. Let me rephrase, I hate this book. It is so boring. It is 800 pages of nothingness. The plot is pointless, the characters are flat, and there is literally nothing that makes you care. I did listen and read this book at the same time, which I’m pretty sure is the only reason I made it through. Samantha Shannon writing so pretentious and obnoxious. Things would literally happen to her characters and I would just be like, “oh.. well, that sucks.”
.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this book to someone I hate. It’s awful. Don’t read it. Seriously. It’s bad. Sorry Samantha but… no thanks. Never again. The best part was reading it with my girls. They, on the other hand, are 5 stars!
