This was one was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, so this likely influenced my thoughts while reading.

I knew this book was set in a queer-normative fantasy world, which is why I placed it on my priority list. This, to me, was its strongest advantage. We need more books in the Fantasy/Romantasy genre with queer-normative worlds, and this is why I would still recommend Faebound.

I found the plot to be quite predictable. I love the sisterly bond and unique world, but I wasn't on the edge of my seat as I read and knew what to expect as I read. If this isn't an issue, then I definitely recommend this book! It's just why I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped.

If you know me, you know how deeply I love the Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire series. I already knew this book would be 5 stars. I'm not sure why I didn't read it earlier, other than that the time didn't feel right. Still, it didn't stop me from placing a hold on the audiobook when my library acquired it.

It arrived, and I knew I was ready. I began to listen and read the entire book in ONE SITTING. It happens so rarely, and yet, I'm already considering a reread. The characters? The foreshadowing? The tension???

There isn't enough space to explain everything I loved about this book. Rest assured, I will be annoying everyone with my recommending JLA because I'm so obsessed. It kills me knowing that book 2 hasn't even been written yet (through no fault of JLA because she's already doing so many things). Nevertheless, if @brambleromance has an extra arc of book 2 when the time comes, I would do (almost anything to get my hands on it.

Also, so many of my favourite Flesh and Fire scenes were reflected in this book, and I nearly squealed in public.

PS. That ending wrecked me 😩

How do I begin? I was so happy when the audiobook arrived at my library, so of course, I had to jump straight in. When I was 15% of the way through, I began to write an essay about it and had to stop after I reached a page (although I would have gladly gone further). I feel this set the scene for the rest of the book.

The themes and messages in this book are so blunt, which is what I loved the most about it. The entire story revolves around the social struggles Nishat faces, which were painfully uncomfortable as the tensions rose.

The only reason I didn't rate the book 5 stars is because Nishat could be bratty at times (even if her motives were justified). Her heart was in the right place, but it took her mind a little longer, which was very interesting to read.
