Nestlings by Nat Cassidy

I read a bit of an interview of the author, Nat Cassidy, and it helped me see more into this incredible work of horror.  The idea of vampirism and how exactly it affects different cultures or religious groups other than Christianity.  This put the book on a whole new level for me, and I was very impressed.

This book is short but very slow moving.  It absolutely reminded me of the vibe of one of my favorites,  an oldie, Salem's Lot.  In that story, the whole town seems to be an entity, trapping the townspeople within.   The same can be said of this story and the oppressive apartment building that seemed to be taking over.

Every line had a purpose, driving the point forward.  I was on alert the whole time I was reading this.

This is a type of thriller that I love.  10 teenage influencers are sent to an island, alone! And, suddenly,  murder! As these teens begin to die off one by one, the pov rapidly changes, leaving me in the dark on what is  actually happening.

I loved this.  It was a fun, fast-paced read that kept me interested.   I love reading a lot of different pov's so this was a good book for me!

The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young

This started slowly at first for me, but when I realized what was really going on, I was invested.  Out of control invested.   This is my favorite book by Adrienne Young so far! This is brilliant, emotional, and overwhelmingly beautiful.

June is one of the Farrow women.  Over time, the name Farrow has become synonymous with madness. June is 32, and just now starting to experience some strange hallucinations, but all is not as it seems.

This story, full of mind-boggling twists, really just took off and I had the best time reading this.  It's the kind of book that makes me want to slowly absorb every word, every piece,  of this story.  I just really enjoyed this one.

This book is really interesting and unique,  but I have to admit that I just wasn't feeling it.  Gothic horror and monster vibes that I absolutely loved.  An intense enemies-to-lovers relationship that I liked.  There are a lot of good things in this book, but overall,  it just didn't hold my attention.

This is about a community of Wardens that fights and kills Vespertines.  The mc does not completely fit into this group, so I really loved that detail and the attention to the feeling of not being enough.

Overall,  I think this is a good story, and I do recommend it, but it just wasn't for me right now.

This is the perfect read for October.  A mysterious dark academia read that completely held my attention the whole way through.

Tara, the main character, is ready to give up hope at Corbin University, where she attends hoping to one day be an author.  Suddenly, she is inducted to a secret society, Magni Viri, which is known for the brilliance of its students.   She is elated.  That is, until she realizes what is actually happening here.

I loved this! It is a gothic ghost story that I definitely recommend for a good autumn read!

This is a perfect way to start off spooky season! I loved Paul Tremblay's Head Full of Ghosts and wound up really enjoying these short stories. A bit is slightly related to his earlier book as well!

I think horror short stories and novellas (one is included in this book) are particularly an excellent format for horror.  Tremblay's unique style really showed in this collection.  Something I would recommend to any fan!

This was a really easy read that was also perfect for curling up with a blanket and a hot drink. It's kind of comforting.  I especially think this is the perfect time of year for a book like this.

The world building and mythological aspects were some of my favorite details.   However,  the characters and some of the dialogues came across as just a bit too ya for me.  So, with that said, I think this is a good book and that many people will enjoy it, but it just wasn't for me.

This is a fictitious and fantastical tale that takes a look at the witch trials in Germany.  My favorite aspects of this book were the rich descriptions of Germany and the fascinating information about history.

However,  this tale left me wanting more from the characters.  While this was so interesting, I still found myself not completely pulled into the story at many points.  At times, I was losing interest.

I still think this is worth checking out!

The emotions in this book.  This is a unique take on the vengeance of a father who lost his daughter in WWII.  He creates a Golem, Vera, who, while containing some of the daughters' real memories and feelings, is still a tool used to kill the Nazis responsible for her death.

This shook me! The emotions, the fear and anger  that absolutely defines this era, this war.  I adored the lyrical and beautiful writing that made the pain of this story so real. I think this is such an interesting take on a topic that will always, and should, stay in our minds as being a part of history we must never repeat.

Meet my obsession! Lol.  I read Rabbits by this author last year, and I have not been able to stop thinking about it since.  This sequel just adds to the first book's dip into the multiverse.  Are there really such things as coincidence?

I feel like I was pulled into this book, and I did have high expectations.   These were mostly met, just sometimes feeling a bit confused in this, but I really ultimately loved this.  When I say this is a trip, I mean that literally.   At least for myself,  as I read this sequel, I was once again questioning everything and falling headfirst into the rabbit hole.
