A little slow at first but it proves necessary to explain a lot of needed information. I felt like this book was a puzzle I had to figure out. The ending was quite unexpected for me and I loved the surprise of it.
I loved this book and am so grateful for the opportunity to review it.
Daughter from the Dark hooked me in fast. This story starts out with the sometimes loveable and sometimes disgraceful DJ Aspirin ( AKA Alexey), who stumbles upon an adolescent girl hiding by the street on his walk home. All she has to her name are the clothes on her back and a very unique teddy bear. When Alexey has a dog set upon him by a group of teenagers nearby, the teddy bear seems to come alive to protect his owner and, unsurprisingly, scare Alexey.
DJ Aspirin, Alexey, is used to being his own man. At age 34, he is a popular radio host and nightclub DJ. He is not prepared for life with an 11 year old girl, especially with THAT teddy bear, her claims that she is his daughter and other magical things that occurs as she begins to seriously learn how to play the violin.
This is a beautiful tale about the magic of music and learning how to love again. Perhaps, when it comes down to it, us humans really do need each other and sometimes it takes some lessons to learn that. Not only is this about our need for each other, but our need for magic. Music really is a type of everyday magic. Something that we may not think of but we would be missing out on so much without it. Music really does create emotions in us, at least for me it truly does. And this story highlights that and also elaborates on that idea to create a stunning tale.
I highly recommend this book for a quick and fascinating read!

This series is very enchanting and magical. I love that the main character, Xanthe, can basically read and see visions of the history of some antique objects. What an interesting ability! I also love the attention to Ley Lines and her ancient blind house in the backyard of her home. All of this mixed with time-travel makes for a treat!
(But the best part is the romance)
There were some things that bothered me, I did not approve of Xanthe leaving her mom who suffers from severe arthritis so badly that she needs crutches. I personally take care of my mom, and to be honest, I do not care what happens.... my mom comes first. I just couldn't see myself leaving my mom in a possibly bad situation for any reason. This just really irritated me on a personal level.
Otherwise, the book is delicious. It's a treat. I recommend it to readers that enjoy some history with their fantasy!

I had so much fun reading this! I could not put it down!
Ettian and Gal are roommates at the Umber Imperial Academy where students take to space and learn the rules of flight. Ettian and some of his classmates take part in a routine drill when it turns into a nightmare, a nightmare based on a secret. Ettian questions his loyalty to his romantic interest, Gal, and also is trying to figure out if he can turn from his past to help his friend.
The ending is a shocker. I honestly am still reeling from it. Actually, I think I am cycling through every emotion one by one. This book is a great read and incredibly entertaining. And I cannot wait until the next book to find out what happens.

I feel so lucky to have recieved this ARC. I'm a huge fan of Wicked Saints, and Ruthless Gods, the sequel, only made me want more ... again... and again I'm going to have to be patient.
This book gave my brain whiplash looking at all the directions the characters could be going in and then finding out what they're actually going to do. One thing was for certain though, and that is that none of the three main characters could be completely trusted.
This series is full of the ancient magic of Gods and Saints and the more modern blood magic. It is fun, romantic, edgy and absolutely captivating. Read these books and love them!

It's not what I wanted for this final book, but it wasn't as bad as a lot of people are saying imo
There is so much that happens in this sequel to Child of a Mad God that I really do not know where to start. So I will start at the start. It begins with a prophecy in a land full of power. A prophecy that begins its fulfillment during a solar eclipse which causes some elation and others a sense of oncoming doom.
Aoleyn, the female protagonist, returns to her tribe full of hope that the other female members of the Coven will celebrate her ordeal with the demon Fossa that dramatically ended the first book. However, (yes, the dreaded “however ” that dashes all hope and dreams) this is not the case! Mairen, the head of the Coven, (also, I personally believe she is a demon from hell) not only accuses Aoleyn of heresy but strips her of her magical gem jewelry. What follows is a lot of unpleasantness that I did not enjoy reading. But, as is typical in fantasy and fiction in general, my beloved heroine must be completely broken before she can truly become the ultimate hero.
Let’s talk about Talmadge, my favourite male protagonist in this series. We left him running back down to the near lake towns, away from the dangerous Usgar tribe that Aoleyn is a member of. He is trying very hard to move on from his broken past while still contemplating the intense chance meeting with the courageous and compassionate Usgar girl, Aoleyn. He doesn’t get a break long because he meets an interesting self-proclaimed Ranger who changes Talmadge’s life for the better, several times over. This strange man does not only help Talmadge but assists the tribes surrounding the Loch Beag lake when tragedy hits, once again I must say he helps several times over!
This story, like in the first book, focuses on the relationship between the tribes at the lake and the evil mountain Usgar tribe. But! But make way for a real Empire that’s making its move on this prime location! This Egyptian like people have been waiting for “the dragon to eat the sun” (solar eclipse) for generations and my friends, I must say these people not only have the numbers but the power to really impact and possibly overcome EVERYONE!
Aoleyn fights her toughest battle so far, Talmadge is not only coping with the inner demons of his past but continuously moving forward, and yet are we all doomed anyways because of these crazy new people and godly like power?

A perfect ending to this action packed trilogy. If you have been following my blog, you know how the first two books went. But I’ll sum up anyway just in case!
This story centers around a very brutal and savage mountain tribe called the Usgar. The Usgar dominate not just the mountain but the surrounding lake villages full of a people that suffer their attacks and kidnappings. The Usgar refer to these skull-shaping captives as the Uamhas, and honestly, their treatment of them could be so bad at times I had a hard time reading it.
However, not all Usgar are bad, especially the female protagonist Aoleyn. She is the heart and soul of this series. In each book, it is her compassion that ultimately wins, not just her expertise with the magic gems. But the magic helps! The magic system in this series is really interesting. It’s based on finding the song within different gems to create unique and God-like powers.
Aoleyn is a fighter. She is a tough young lady, and her heart is in the right place and always leads her true. The first book ends with her battle against the Demon Fossa, and the sequel left me hanging for a minute with the introduction and domination of a new Empire led by the God Scathmizzane.
I was really worried while reading Song of the Risen God about how all of this could be wrapped up. There are more introductions to new characters, primarily from the far away Honce-the-Bear lands and their major cities. I found the ending to be very fitting for this series. I wont say anything to give it away, but I was impressed with how Salvatore wrapped everything up.
This was another wild ride! One thing though, be sure to read the epilogue! This whole series was a unique look at detailed cultures set in a land that teems with magic. I think that is what I enjoyed most. The whole story is great, even if a little harsh at times, but the creation of these belief systems held by the differing people is so distinctive.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!!!

A must-read classic! We all may know the moral to this story, but to read this during the holidays creates a reminder of what is truly important; human kindness.
