Its 1933 in Jersey during the middle of the great depression. However, this is definitely not historical fiction, this is pure scifi/fantasy in a world with robots that perform labor and even some that take part in crime.
Meet Elias Roche. Please refrain from calling him Roach, he definitely does not appreciate that. Roche is somewhat of a detective, and after a major shootout with police and civilians both dead, he takes the case to try to uncover what is really happening in this city. He is partnered with an Automatic which at first he does not appreciate. However as time goes by he learns that the blue eyed Automatic is actually a pretty helpful resource.
This book starts out with a thrilling fight scene that somewhat lays the groundwork for how the rest of the story goes. I highly suggest this action-packed debut novel for all fans of scifi and fantasy alike.

I have mixed feelings about this book... I think it's an amazing story, it's truly magnificent and heartwrenching and full of meaning and life lessons for any age.... but on the other hand, THE ENDING! The marlin, everything, all those trials, I understand the point but at the same time I do not have to like it, and trust me, I dont.
However, I do recommend this book, it's short and a quick read. Although I find it depressing, I love how insightful it is.

ROSE! At the beginning of this book I feel really bad for her, however, I know that if she knew I felt bad for her she would definitely be pissed and may possibly punch me. The reason I feel bad for Rose is because not only does she know Strigoi Dimitri survived her attack but he is sending her letters, letters that simultaneously say he loves her and that he is going to kill her when he gets the opportunity. If I were Rose, I would be flipping out, but Rose is so strong and she, of course, is handling this incredibly well. I am very glad she is able to confide in her best friend Lissa who is able to offer moral support.
While all of this is going on, Rose has to face her trials. This is her final test that will measure her ability and skills fighting for and protecting Moroi from Strigoi. The results of this test will determine her future. How do you think Rose did? Well, after all the REAL Strigoi attacks and kills she has made, you can imagine that this may not be the most difficult test for her.
Lissa and Rose have plans after they graduate but may they may not be what you assume. Rose wants to get in touch with Victor Dashkov. Yes, THE Victor Dashkov that tortured Lissa into healing him in the first book of this series. They actually want to ask him for his help. They want to know more about his brother, a recluse Spirit user who possibly knows how to heal a Strigoi and return them to their original state.
I must admit, as this series continues, each book really is becoming more and more emotional for me. I am completely invested in this story and I can honestly say that although this is fantasy, so much of the underlying drama and especially how Rose expresses herself, it feels all too real.
I love this series and I cant believe I only have one book left to read and then its OVER! What will I do with my life? Well, to hold off the inevitable, I am going to read The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo before I complete this amazing series.

This is the last book, book six, in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. If you haven’t read the books up to this point, this review does contain spoilers… Proceed with caution!
Rose is locked up for the murder of Queen Tatiana which, obviously, she is innocent of. However, do you picture Rose taking it easy in her sterile jail cell? Heck No, she is putting up a tough fight even if it is from behind bars.
However, Rose is not the only one that can be wild and make a scene. Perhaps she has rubbed off on her friends because, let’s just say, when they figure out a way for her to escape captivity, it goes off with a BANG!
Rose was prepared to devote her life to protecting Lissa. She was ready to give up personal freedom and her ability to choose her own path. Now, Lissa is proving she can protect Rose and she is also showing that she too can be quite the badass.
Rose does escape and she sets off across country with Dimitri. Throughout her journey, she comes in contact with all kinds of new and old faces which creates what are at times brief, but very entertaining, appearances by some of these characters.
This journey is a great summation to the the development of Rose’s character over the course of this six book series. It shows off Rose’s strength, her honesty, her innate sense of goodness and her ability to forgive others, even to forgive herself for her mistakes. We are all full of imperfections like Rose, but also like Rose, everyone has the ability to be fierce. Fiercely loyal, fiercely good and fiercely in love. This last journey with Rose can teach us all some life lessons.

The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo is a book of short stories that are a part of the Grishaverse. They take place in Ravka, Kerch, and Fjerda. These are not just any short stories, though. They are tales that are meant to teach a lesson, however, this lesson may be a bit prickly.
They are about the differences and similarities between monsters and miracles, the power of cleverness and friendship, the true price of beauty. How looks can be deceiving and one should be cautious as to who, or what, they let in the front door. To always know what a bargain entails and to be careful what you sing for.
This book is not only full of these lovely stories but also illustrated uniquely on every page. Just as Leigh Bardugo’s words flow effortlessly so does the artwork create a wondrous sense of magic and flare that envelopes the reader wholly.
I cannot recommend this collection enough!

First, can I just say, what a creepy cover this is? The sense of beauty in its creepiness is a very good way to illustrate the style of writing in this book of horror.
This story is about a family that lives in a very old house. Mainly about the two sisters, Sam and Elizabeth, after Elizabeth moves back home 8 months pregnant and separated from her husband. Sam is very different from her sister however, mainly in that she can see and hear the past inhabitants of her and her mother’s home. This does not start becoming really scary until after her sister’s arrival back home which somehow sparks the presence of a new ghost, a little faceless boy.
The past is just as haunting as the present in this thriller and even more so in the gorgeous style of storytelling the author uses that not only makes the reader feel like a part of this tale but see it clearly play out in the mind’s eye. The author truly builds this haunted house with their words and the fear just spills out from the pages.
I highly recommend this book for fans of horror! Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!

I am having a difficult time figuring out exactly how this book made me feel. I am going through a tough time and dealing with a lot of anxiety right now and reading is a wonderful way to help me get through these feelings. However, I feel like it took me way too long to get through this book. I honestly cannot decide if that is the books fault or my own.
While reading this sequel to Children of Blood and Bone, I found myself often halting between the brief chapters lost in thought but not thoughts about the book, just the kind of random way I lose concentration and my mind wanders. The book seems to be made to be read quickly with chapters only a few pages long and very short paragraphs with fast-paced dialogue. And yet it took me three days to get through this which doesn’t seem right to me, but like I said, I have no idea if it is the book or my personal distractions that caused this.
I can say, that by the end of this sequel, I was feeling every emotion possible. Zelie and Amari brought magic back at great personal cost to themselves at the end of the first book, and now they are facing war in their beloved land and decisions that will effect them for the rest of their lives. These strong, young women and their companions must find the strength within themselves to not only face this fight but overcome inner struggles of who they truly are and how their actions will change their very souls. What is the right thing to do and what will they give up to win?
This definitely is a must read. The ending… WOW. Tomi Adeyemi is not messing around about keeping readers on the edge of their seats until book three!

This really is a must read for fans of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. However, I have talked to plenty of fans over the past few days while reading this hypnotic accumulation of the history of Middle-Earth. There are people who thoroughly enjoy this and there are those who feel like it is completely unreadable. I personally loved it. I feel like it taught me all the information about the races of creatures and history of certain characters so that now I will have a new reverence for the work of Tolkien.
This is pure fantasy for the sake of fantasy. This is the work behind the well-known stories that we all love. Tolkien began these writings around the year 1917 and filled countless journals with this backstory that birthed the famous tales he is known for. I recommend this book for rainy days accompanied with hot cups of tea or cocoa and, obviously, you will need a good blanket and a rotten little cat to curl up on your legs to thoroughly enjoy this. That’s just my suggestion!
This is a compendium of Middle-Earth that needs to be cherished! I highly recommend this!

Wow… the ending of this book just about leaves me speechless, however, if you know me then you know that’s not possible. I will just say, this is a better ending to The Winternight Trilogy than I could have dreamed of in my wildest imaginings. It also leaves me completely at peace and satisfied that the series is over. That is honestly not something I can say about every series.
Vasya is such a dynamic character, and the reader really gets to see how far she has developed and grown by the end of this book. The last book ended with Vasilisa destroying a wicked magician, setting fire to Moscow, and saving her niece and the city all in one night. So, now what? You may be wondering. So much has happened so far, what can possibly happen now?
Well, Part One of this book just about killed me. You will have to read it and find out for yourself why. Vasya, being the strong woman she is, of course overcomes and carries on to continue fighting. This book is full of war. War between brothers, between The Winter King and The God of Chaos, Morozko and Medved. War between Russia and the Tatars. War for the chyerti, for their very existence. Yes, a lot is going on, but it is all handled beautifully and it wraps up perfectly in the end.
Travel the roads of midnight and face the madness of magic in this gorgeous end to The Winternight Trilogy!

Wow! The ending of this book is so intense! I was losing it while reading the last thirty or so pages. Just incredible. I do not comprehend how authors have this amazing talent to paint such vivid pictures with words that can elicit such powerful emotions from the reader. Like I said, incredible!
I love where R. F. Kuang takes this sequel to The Poppy War. The author really goes in an unexpected direction and it is such an amazing ride. While Rin recovers and faces grief, the Cike are on a serious mission and are fighting their way to get to the point where they can take their revenge by destroying Su Daji, the empress. However, there are complications for Rin who, along with the grief and pain, is facing madness from her god taking over her mind.
There are quite a few characters from the first book that reappear in the sequel, some of whom are quite unexpected.
This book deals with so many real world topics, for example addiction is a major issue for Rin. She is using Opium to resist her god, the Phoenix, from controlling her completely. The grief she comes to face with sobriety is also very real and Kuang very vividly creates images of the pain that is truly felt in similar situations. And, of course, there is WAR. I hope you didn’t bet all your money on a war-free sequel!
Kuang is great at keeping things realistic and true to life. She shows the ugliness of war in all its inglorious details. There are also some topics brought up that could be triggering for anyone who has been through abusive situations, I just want to clearly warn anyone that’s dealing with that kind of pain.
I do highly, highly, very highly recommend this series to fans of epic fantasy!
