Just a very goofy, loving, wholesome little book about romance between vampire & werewolves... insta happy mood booster, so comfortably cheesy and WARM! They are sooo cute together it melts my gloomy heart, aww. Read this for some serotonin right nowww please!

Impossible to not love this book, I downloaded it to share with the kids I work with, but upon reading it for myself even, the illustrations are beautiful & everything written & drawn are so well thought-out. I wish I can have this in physical form but it's impressive book for children & adults alike! Thank you NetGalley for providing the eARC of this book.

Ah.. a classic twisted story of manipulation and power play in the name of love.. my thing. I've been wanting to read this since last year & I wonder why I waited for so long because I totally love this. The description of the house, the city, the social setting are all soo atmospheric it instantly transfers you into the pages right alongside the character. It was so.. descriptive. Mainly perhaps why I love it so much. Also, rooting always for girls finally realizing something is off and challenging it, rising to it. Classic queer vampire: chef's kiss, mwa.

So, the best part was how well thought of & well researched the book is. Upon reading this, as a young non-American, I also get to learn about polio pandemics that happened half a century ago, about the Coventry polio epidemic & about the Cutter incident. I like how in the end the author give notes & more insights on the event and tell us the author works carefully treading the details as they highlight this topic to become a work of fiction.
Now, I went in expecting a thriller & crime mystery--which was what the book is about, sure. But it also, has the feeling of historical fiction to it. Was it intended? Perhaps not (or maybe?) but I wonder if it comes across that way too for other readers or the author. There were some subplots & plot reveal that felt..? I'm sure it wasn't intended that way, but the way it's delivered, it somehow appears like it's a filler. I wish to explore a bit more about Phiney's medical condition & test result because of the built up to it; but the second it was out, the subplot was dropped immediately: resolved abruptly & vanish into thin air. As for how most of the people responsible to the incident & scandal conveniently die, the ending left me hanging & unsatisfied. So what happened to them? Sure the police won't investigate, but which death were indeed accidents as it is, did Wilf end his own life or was he (and the rest) murdered? How about Harry, and Phiney's being pushed in early part of the book?
So many questions was intrigued in me but I find so little answer, I wish the reader could have deeper conclusion to all this mess. But quite a good one. I appreciate the sentiment on writing a book based on such important event. Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for allowing me an early read through the eARC.

This took me a little while and the flowery writing at first didn't work for me, but I appreciate the art behind reading it after some more time. The classic story, corruption of the soul. Probably the OG for current day's stream of "ill & insane unbearable women" literature. I enjoyed it quite well how the story progressed and ends.

This was my first Ocean Vuong's and sadly did not work to me; I'd probably try my luck better with On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeus.

This book works for me, the way reading the entire book feels like it's constantly raining cold despite having read it in peak highest of summer makes me feel happy. I enjoy crime/mystery for the experience and not the plot, so maybe I'm not the best critic, but to me I'm genuinely curious & wondering about what happen to the sister; and did not expect the plot reveal at the end.
Seen some complaints about the writing style (that's said to mimic/heavily inspired by Murakami) but to me it doesn't come off that way; I guess Japanese literature share similar sentiments to us readers upon reading it is all. Terrific time enjoying this piece!
