Did not finish book. Stopped at 38%.
It just wasn't engrossing enough for me. It had too many details in common with the commercial timehopping YA/fantasy novels and didn't give me a compelling reason to keep goong to find out if there was something different. I couldn't connect with the characters. They seemed too neatly pegged i to their roles in moving the story forward. I couldn't suspend my disbelief.

It was an enjoyable, beautifully written story from start to finish. It's a novel that's adventurous and suspenseful, but at the same time profound, as the author deftly worked in the topics of generational trauma, border politics, history and healing without being heavy-handed or sappy. No word seemed out of place, no description superfluous.

I read the last page with the satisfaction and sense of transformation that you get from a book so well-crafted.
