The Stars are Dying by Chloe C. Peñaranda
4.0
I took such a long time to write this review. Why? Well, honestly, it’s because I was confused about how I felt. I was of two minds. It started very strong, and I was hooked, but then it went on, and I never got any answers; just more confusion and doubt. I still liked it a lot, no doubt about that. I just wish things were a tiny bit clearer.
What I liked:
The plot! It was so well thought out. The characters were beautifully written. Nyte was the perfect shadow daddy, and Astrae's growth felt okay. She went through a lot, so I'll give her that. The angst was *chef’s kiss*. I can't wait to see how their story develops in the second book. But the best part was the ending. I mean, it was so good, and that’s a big reason why I'll continue the series.
Now, onto what I wasn't a fan of:
Mostly the pacing. I wish it picked up at some point before the ending. Also, as I said, I wish things were a bit clearer in terms of the backstory. I hope it's resolved in the second book.
Here are my reasons why you should read this:
♡ You like celestial beings.
♡ You like soul and blood vampires.
♡ You like deadly trials.
♡ You like villain gets the girl.
♡ You like slowburn.
♡ You like twists and betrayals.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
My weakness is a romantasy that has a good world building and amazingly written characters. Lor is such an intelligent, resilient, and total badass FMC. I fell in love with her since the first page of the book. She only grew stronger and clever throughout the story.
I loved how the dual POV were from characters who didn't know each other. It kept things very interesting, and I can't wait to see what direction the story takes in the sequel.
Here are my reasons why you should read this:
♡ You like deadly trials.
♡ You like unique magical courts and fae politics.
♡ You like a Cinderella rags to riches.
♡ You like a badass FMC with mysterious morally grey MMC.
♡ You like rival kingdoms.
♡ You like Hunger Games meets The Bachelor.

Disclaimer: I am not a dark romance reader. However, I loved this duology, and I felt that I could not talk about the books in this duet separately, so I'm clubbing my thoughts together. You'll find the same review from me on both the books.

I have been intrigued by this duology for a while now, and when my dear friend tried to get me to give it a try for a Buddy Read, I was easily convinced. Let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed. Yes, I still stand by the sentiment that I'm not a dark romance reader. Yes, I still enjoyed it. I loved the second book much more than the first. Also, let me tell you that both books are miles apart from each other and darker in their own ways. I urge everyone to read the trigger warnings very carefully before divulging in.
The first book, Haunting Adeline, is a romance book through and through. Admittedly, it is a dark romance. Even though I am not okay with a couple of things on a personal level, the story was so well written that I was glued to it. The romance was hot. Like HOT HOT🔥🥵.
Hunting Adeline, the second book's story, was brutally honest about certain aspects in our world and painful to read at times, but that's what made this duet such an amazing piece of work. Also, the first book makes so much more sense after reading the second one. They gel together so well. Hunting Adeline has evoked such strong emotions in me and will always have a special place in my heart.

Unhinged by Vera Valentine
I don't have any words for this. I laughed out loud throughout and my stomach hurts now.

I devoured this book in one sitting. Everything is on point - character development, world building, writing. It was such an action-packed sequel full of love, betrayal, power, and revenge. I was glued to the edge of my seat throughout, cheering for Lara and Aren.
I wish there was more on the romance part as I love the chemistry between the MCs. However, I am not holding it against the story.
Here are my reasons why you should continue reading this series:
♡ You like angst and enemies to lovers (repeat).
♡ You like fast-paced action.
♡ You like a badass FMC.
♡ You like amazing world building.

When Grumpy Met Sunshine by Charlotte Stein
5.0
Do you want a romance that's toe-curling, funny, spicy, and unputdownable? Then you've got to read When Grumpy Met Sunshine.
First things first, Alfie, our MC is supposed to be grumpy, but he's the cutest guy ever. I love how innocent, real, and adorable he is. And Mabel? Oh, I love her, too. She is the perfect sunshine to our adorable grumpy.
I enjoyed their banter and relationship development. It hits you in all the right ways. Their chemistry is palpable and sizzling. I did not expect it to be so steamy, and I loved it. Some moments were so hilarious, and I love how "real" it all felt.
Here are my reasons why you should read this:
♡ You like strangers to friends to lovers.
♡ You like fake dating.
♡ You like he falls first and hard.
♡ You like one bed.
♡ You like a steamy opposites attract.
♡ You like sizzling chemistry.
♡ You like your MCs in their 30s.
