The Company Man by Robert Jackson Bennett
5.0
[b:The Company Man|8077923|The Company Man|Robert Jackson Bennett|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1344265587s/8077923.jpg|12797918] is a science fiction, fantasy, noir piece set in an alternate 1919/1920's America. It is another fantastic genre bender from [a:Robert Jackson Bennett|2916869|Robert Jackson Bennett|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1328633063p2/2916869.jpg]. Bennett isn't repeating himself here. While every bit as well written and engrossing as Bennett's first novel ([b:Mr Shivers|6433882|Mr. Shivers|Robert Jackson Bennett|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1348232256s/6433882.jpg|6623382]), The Company Man is set in its own fully realized and grounded world, giving it a completely different feel and flow. Really good stuff.
Kolchak The Night Stalker: A Black & Evil Truth by C.J. Henderson
5.0
C.J. Henderson nails it with [b:Kolchak The Night Stalker: A Black & Evil Truth|815777|Kolchak The Night Stalker A Black & Evil Truth|C.J. Henderson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1266651677s/815777.jpg|801699]! His version of Kolchak reads true. He truly captures the spirit and tone of the old "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" series. Henderson reproduces the language and cadence of Kolchak so perfectly, you cannot help but hear Darren McGavin's voice in your head. And, what a fun, creepy, and, dare I say, epic scale mystery Henderson has whipped up for our intrepid reporter. What a fun read. (We will miss you, Mr. Henderson.)
