I started this immediately after I finished listening to Delilah Green Doesn’t Care (Bright Falls #1 )
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75- I am truly torn on how to rate this book. The reason being it’s such a sensitive topic. It just fell short of 4 stars; barely- which for me is still REALLY good!
‼️TW: Sexual assault (detailed/graphic) and mental health‼️
.
.
This book is not just the story of an assault,
But the aftermath. The ugly, sad, and harsh realities of living with trauma on a daily basis.
Everything is depicted; the trauma, fears, emotions, flashbacks and unhealthy coping habits.
.
.
I personally wasn’t a fan of how she treated others. Josh deserved better and she didn’t have to use others in the ways she did. Granted I get it; trauma response/ trauma brain was very much present.
I just wanted to grab her and help her in every way possible. In my personal life I have worked with (For the last 5 years) victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, so this book hit close to home and my brain was going 100mph on what could she possibly need in the moment while I read. (I did enjoy that it was told in sections by what grade she was in- this showcased the longer effects of trauma)
.
.
Overall this book is a great portrayal of trauma…very raw, emotional, honest, heartbreaking, and sometimes even destructive.

Quick little listen! For an Audible original this was GREAT.
I loved the podcast aspect to it, it kept me super engaged. Im a podcast listener, so this was just so fun for me.
I easily listened to this in one sitting! The story was so fun and easy to follow and honestly I did NOT see that plot twist coming

uhm. so I went into this book semi blind. Thanks Tiktok for blowing this up, but uhm… yeah. I’m going to be in the minority here and say I was not a fan.
To be honest I’m just not sure how I feel snout this book. It wasn’t…. Boring…it was… almost like reading a really strange porn. I will say it kept me interested, so that’s why I have it 2.5 ⭐️

The relationships in this book? T O X I C
The men? M A N I P U L A T I V E

I know a lot of people consider this super spicy, but honestly I just feel like it was giving …abuse?
I, personally, don’t think these relationships need to be romanticized.

⭐️⭐️.75- (Maybe 3⭐️??? IDK)
So I didn’t love nor hate Malibu Rising…However, I enjoyed recognizing names/characters from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo!
The timelines of the book took me a second to get used to bc I honestly forgot this was about the children and not the parents during my read because of how the timelines went back and forth. (Usually I can follow along well) some of the flashbacks were quite interesting and that’s what keep me engaged and reading. Sometimes I found myself feeling like I was a member of the family and picking sides.

I went into this book blind, all I knew was that many people have cried while reading it. My coworker told me to read it for that reason and here I am…

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5- This book started off a bit slow, and I did have to restart it multiple times before being able to remember what I was even reading. Once I could focus and follow the story line, this book did pick up! There were definitely a few times I found myself thinking “oooouuu. Okay yeah, that was creepy…”
