my rating relies heavily on the fact that i identify strongly with both britta and wes. the two main characters felt so real and authentic it was impossible not to believe their love story. i rooted for them SO hard, their chemistry had me shaking & the book had me GIGGLING multiple times in public.

denise williams is a master at quippy, witty dialogue. she is officially on my radar for all future releases. i absolutely adored the way britta and wes fell in love via text and email before they even knew what the other looked like. the romance in this was slow-burn and so well written and also, there were consequences for the characters' actions (thought i should mention that bcs it doesn’t always happen in these books). honestly, i was just super in love with all the characters, it had some interesting side characters and i am hoping that they get a book too.

i loved the representation of a fat black girl living her best life so much! this was different, so different from other stories with representation. you WILL fall in love with britta for her sense of humor and her self-confidence. but just like us, she will falter and her confidence will wain from time to time. i can tell that britta will speak to so many women through her journey in fitness. i wish she was a real person, a real journalist, so i could find comfort in her posts.

wes is such a sweet cinnamon roll, there's just something about a soft man with a pure heart. once "you're in my damned bones" happened, i knew i was done for. one thing i noticed about his chapters was that wes was never in love with a plus-sized woman. he was in love with a radiant, beautiful, smart, and confident woman. to me, that means wes genuinely did not see the difference and loved her all the same regardless. never did i once hear something like "i preferred her body to *insert conventionally attractive female character*'s body" or something like "none of her fuller areas bothered me." maybe my wording doesn't do it justice, but i feel like when we pair a plus-size woman up with a handsome, very fit, and muscular man, we often swoon over the man because he "settles". that simply is NOT wes.

my only complaint was the conflict at the end. i just didn’t vibe with it, idk how to explain it, but it ruined the book for me. the miscommunication bothered me, i don't see the point of that trope if angst isn't involved. if you hate it when characters’ problems are avoided by just talking to each other, this will probably drive you mad. the ending was also very rushed. it was summed up way too fast for me and i had to press the breaks and go back a little at times. but otherwise, believe me when i say this book had next to zero flaws.

p.s. i'll be using "it's february" as an excuse for all my bad moods from now on, regardless of whether or not it's actually february
