This is NOT Harry Potter. This is a gritty real depiction of what magic would look like if we actually had it in the real world.

Is Quentin whinny and insufferable? Yeah, but I would argue he's a depressed late teen early 20 something and this story is told in forst person. What do you expect? This is quite accurate in this aspect. I highly advocate for the audiobooks when reading this series because of this fact. It helps significantly with getting past some of the harder pitfalls with the narration and allow for the reader to focus on the story.

I wish I had read the physical version of this so I could have thrown the book at the end, because of how dumb the protagonist in the present is. The only redeeming quality of this book is that the flashbacks to the past are semi interesting and pull the story forward.  The story in the present has so many plot holes Swiss cheese is jealous.
