im sure when it was published it was shocking and interesting, but reading this in 2025 for the first time it was kind of boring. i wanted to get to Vaughan's part with the experiments at least but i couldnt stand the narrator. might watch the movie if i can find it & id like to try some of this authors other work but this just didnt hit the right mark for me.
i picked this up in a charity shop a couple years ago & finally got round to it. i was excited for a while, its a topic i find quite interesting and its something ill likely be studying to some degree in school & i figured itd be intruiging to see the perspective of someone writing around the time of the Dolly experiments, particularly that of a journalist. unfortunately, Kolata (in my opinion) failed to go in depth on the topics that were most interesting and the chapters i read felt unfocused. i wanted to finish this book as i kept thinking itd get better as it moved onto the topics that were more within my field of study, but eveytime i picked it up it was because i forced myself to and i spent the entire time imagining a different book on the same topic.
