Though arguably slower paced compared to Volume 2, Yuki Suzuki gives us relevant and factual information on Werner’s decision making process. I appreciated the informational tidbits. Though I would also argue this is the reason why the pace may have been much slower. I look forward to reading Volume 4 this late spring.

Enjoyed how the author focused more on confrontations with other humans and showing the dark side of society ie prostitution, slavery, kidnapping, murder, etc. Most of all, I continue to enjoy the stoicism,  vast experience and realism of Zig Crane. His strength is due to discipline and planning and his intuition is due to experience and rational thinking. I recommend this series to those looking for a grittier and more mature storyline in a fantasy world.

I enjoyed the maturity of the characters and of the story. The author emphasized the reality of a mercenary’s life and the cold outlook one comes to have. I appreciated the good pace of the story. It’s straightforward, focusing on our two main characters and their daily lives.
