Hitch by Anne Conley
4.0
Well, I read Bond and Seek back-to-back and just couldn’t get enough so I embarked on Hitch and it did not disappoint. There’s sort of a double mystery between the case that Amber and Dex are both working, and whoever is harassing Amber. It’s fun that her past just won’t stop haunting her… oh and Dex is a total dream.
Character and plot continuity are on point, as are things like law enforcement and cop life. This book completely left me wanting more and I cannot wait for Echo. We get a sneak peak into Simon at the end of this installment and it’s tantalizing - I’ve had a thing for Simon since early into the series so I’m already hooked.
Meanwhile just the mention of Amber’s previous town - Serendipity has me cravin the small town life, so I’m off to indulge in Conley’s Stories of Serendipity series.
Overall, 4 stars for Hitch!

Hearts of Jade by Mary Crawford
5.0
Cover: Gorgeous, fits fairly well. Professionally done.
Formatting: BEAUTIFUL.
Characters:
Well developed. Brilliant. Consistent - even with the little peaks we got at them in the past books of the series. Right on!
The story:
This is Crawford's best book yet, in my opinion.
Jade is a fun character to read because she's an artist... a few of the characters we meet in this series are artists but what's interested in Jade is, it's not her passion. To have that skill and not even want it seems crazy... but she's very level-headed, down to earth. Just has other dreams for herself.
Even though her appearance would be described as bold, she's reserved. She's a great example of why not to judge a book by her cover. I'd read an entire series about just her.
Crawford's descriptives in this book are on point. The usual drama found in her books is still different - she never runs out of ways to keep us entertained, it seems. The romance is a good one. Love that it takes place in Florida - just a personal bonus.
This one sucked me way in, I missed it when I had to put it down. When I read lines like, "It was the worst pain I've ever felt..." I was brought back to my own pain - not much does that for me. This one is really well done.
I feel like Crawford's writing is improving before my eyes and I'm impressed.
That's no easy feat.
Overall, highly recommend. You can read this as part of its series OR a standalone, as it will not leave you hanging or in the dark.

Port In the Storm by Mary Crawford

Both characters feel young, but down to earth and I find myself rooting for both of them. It's very easy to get attached and relate to them! I actually came to love Sam when I got a little taste of him in Sheltered Hearts so it's great to get more of his story... so I’ll admit, I had some love for this book before I even read it. Sam is a sweet, geeky guy, just my type so I can totally see why Taylor might take to him, despite her crappy past experience. He isn’t just kind to her though, he really helps her to move on from her not-so-sweet past.
If you read Crawford, you’ll need to include this one – it’s loaded with familiar characters (which for me makes it even more fun) and lots of fun is packed into a quick read. I feel like even if it were longer, it’d feel this way because it flows very well. Giving us just a glimpse into Sam & Taylor’s lives, it still manages to wrap everything up nicely. She could easily write more and turn this into a prequel down the line OR completely leave it alone – perfectly satisfying as is. Recommend.

Deeper in You by David S. Scott

This installment in the series picks up exactly where ‘Deep in You’ left off. Xander continues on his downward spiral and the drama of that, as well as his relationship situation with Lily, keeps the pages turning… initially.
There's more drama and we get the answers Deep In You left us needing. Emotions are high and so is that heat level!
A great, fast-paced, hot read. You can't go wrong with Scott!

Character Development:
Brilliant! I love Lacie - she’s selfless, infuriatingly so at times, dedicated to her job and those around her without regard for her own well being.
Simon - the man has been somewhat of a mystery up til now, so I’m stoked to get his book! Who isn’t? It’s what we’ve been waiting for, right? What we have seen of him though, has paved the way for the man he is, as we come to learn, so the continuity is brilliant and the character development level is advanced for sure.
I find myself relating to them both for different reasons, and know early in that this’ll be my favorite in this series.
Fans of this series will be pleased to know we get a taste of all the other men and Deena Rae in this one - I enjoyed every second.
Overall:
Off the bat, we’ve got drama, and we can tell it’ll lead to action, with more drama mixed in, so I’m hooked! A fast-paced read, and it’s mildly tainted by the nagging knowledge that this is the last in this glorious series.
This one has some darkness that makes it all more real, that I’m in love with. And at times, we get the POV of the antagonist, which is incredibly fun and somewhat enlightening if you’ve followed this series since Craze.
I’ve looked forward to this book - Simon’s since Book 1 in this series and it did not disappoint, somehow. Overall, 4 stars. Kept me hooked right until the end. Wishing for more of this series.
Cover: Gorgeous.
Fitting.
Formatting:
Beautiful as always. These are really pretty books, both in print and ebooks.
*I won’t comment on the editing/proofing since I primarily read ARCs.

After Sunrise by Leigh Robbins

If you read Book 1, Darkness Before Dawn, you’ve likely already figured out there’s more to Brett Parker than we got to see… just as I predicted, After Sunset starts out with a better look at him. We also get a better look at Lauren and their history.
Both are great characters, well-developed and recurring characters from Book 1 are consistent.
There’s a minor continuity issue, nothing that takes away from the reading experience, in the beginning. Editing is really well-done, I only noticed one typo. Formatting is gorgeous. It’s an addictive page-turner that made it for a quick read so I’d easily call this 4 stars.
It’s great to get Brett & Lauren’s history after the mystery surrounding this in Darkness Before Dawn and it’s got just the perfect amount of drama and conflict to make it juicy.
