All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks

Quick thoughts: this is one of the most validating books I've read in a long time. It's like bell hooks reached into my brain and poured it between the pages. The way she discusses our (US) culture's lack of love is clear and thorough. She also ties it to a lack of spirituality. In her case the spirituality happens to be religious but she makes it clear she's not trying to convert anyone. She's merely drawing examples from her own experience. It's the spiritual connection between humans what allows us to love one another. I also appreciate the way she talks about dealing with those who hurt us. Whether and how to forgive them. The discussion on our culture's obsession with lies (including "little" white lies) was particularly poignant for me because it perfectly described the disconnect i often feel between myself and neurotypical people. Lying is just... So weird to me. There were a few lines about Monica Lewinsky and Nicole Simpson that were off-color, and I wish she'd brought up the topic of greed without naming names because it was a valid point, it was just misplaced in the argument imo. It feels violent to assume someone else's intentions, especially when what happened to those two was already so bad. Wholeheartedly recommend this book anyway though
