Bruiser by Neal Shusterman

Ugh this could be so much better if there was more development. If there was more 'oh wait crap I actually care about this guy as my friend' I would've loved it. It just didn't quite hit what I was hoping for.

The last hundred pages were so good. The twist at the end was fantastic, and so were the others spread through. Our main character is so wonderful and brave and I actually like...

I definitely wish there was more horror or body horror in this, but this was also really good. The twist felt obvious to me, but I still like how it was handled. I don't really know why this is rated lgbtqia even though all it has is a mention of a bisexual main character but...
What a gem of a book. I love good ya horror books, and past me always yearned for sisters. (sorry brother) 5 stars for vihes and writing, but could have drawn me in a little more.
It's too bad there won't be a sequel because for once, I would actually love to read one.

Give Me a Sign by Anna Sortino

This rating may seem low, but I really did enjoy the book. I've always loved ASL and I think the way the author depicted it was accurate. The ASL stuff definitely was my key thing on why I liked this book.
Other than that, everything else kind of fell flat? The romance was cute, but like they're obviously not going to last. So realistic, I guess. The title of the book definitely makes it seem more romance oriented rather than more so looking into the details and the life and an abundance of unique characters with a subplot romance, which is always great. However, I was kind of very much in the mood for something to take me away, and this didn't really do it. Definitely more of a personal rating, because otherwise I probably would've rated this 4 stars.

Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus

The beginning was confusing for me, and the writing itself was average. I liked the plot, didn’t hate the romance, and mainly enjoyed all of the sibling relationships. I liked how the book acknowledged that teenagers don’t know everything, but often think they do.
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

This was a fun, interesting read! Emily Wilde's Encylcopaedia of Faeries is a book written in the style of a journal that the main character writes in to keep research and field notes. The romance was cute, but also perfectly in the background. I think the information and all the fae stories were probably my favorite part.

The end almost made me tear up. This was a sad book, but the journey was fascinating. An exploration of what makes us human and how cowardice can often save you.
Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

This wasn't a bad book. The plot was interesting, a little weird, but not bad. The characters were alright, although I wish some had more screen time. The main character was nice, but kind of boring. I didn't actively hate the book, but when I put it down I forgot it existed.
Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim

First things, loved our main character. She was courageous, impulsive, brave, and yet also kind.
I also adored the relationships between her and all of the characters no matter how small. Her and the head cook, her and Pao, ughhh I wish there was more.
Typically I tend not to enjoy YA fantasy books, but this surprised me with how much I did enjoy it. The world building, although I did find it a little cluttered, was fascinating. The fact that it was inspired by a fairytale I loved as a kid also helped.
Romance wise, it was so cute. Personally would've liked more scenes with the dragon bc he was so cute. But the main one was breathtaking. The scene with the stitches, with the stories, with his little sister whom I also adored.
I also really liked how the author showed various relationships with different characters who may not have been necessary to the plot like Megari.
