Never Silent: ACT UP and My Life in Activism by Peter Staley

this was really interesting from the POV of covering the late 80s and thereafter, which was a time period I don't think I'd really looked into

so heartrending to read abt the terrible sadness of the time alongside the sustained joy of being gay

I loved this really intensely and deeply. I've been reading so many good books lately and feel so immersed in fiction rn which I think is important. book reviews are harder than film reviews, and the point of any of my reviews is moreso to leave notes for myself so I remember - man who has to document everything in his life. idk I cared about this. Elsewhere is one of my favourite books of all time and it was something special to have graduated from reading that over a decade ago to this now.

picked this up and said to myself that I'd read it over a few days and take it slowly and then immediately I read the entire thing without putting it down and I smiled and then laughed and then cried and then went oh god............

I am going to a poetry reading this week and am not sure if I'll read but I need to start editing my own poetry and writing more of it as it makes me feel more whole as a person.

wow I fucking adored this there was so much in this for me to relate to between disability and alcoholism and the ways Elliott felt about himself. gay men is all the same huh. I really didn't expect to like this as much as I did but big contender for my top 10 of the year. last chapter is so painfully beautiful.
