Someone Like You by Lyla Dane

The only thing my mind was able to conjure when I was with him like that was more more more. And on top of it all, he made me feel so safe the entire time.
And let's not forget he called me baby. Twice. Be still, my horny heart.

When I saw "hurt/comfort" without breakups, I knew this would be right up my alley—and it did not disappoint!

5* without hesitation! This book is everything it promises to be.

We get a grumpy, touch-starved (but touch-averse) porcupine of a character who keeps most people at arm's length. Pair him with a gentle giant with tattoos, piercings, a broken past, and absolute devotion to his man, and you’ve got these two.

To be honest, the first 25 % was a bit slow, and Isaac really seemed determined to win the title of the meanest MC to ever walk the earth. BUT! After that, things turned around as we learned more about both of them, and their beautiful romance began to blossom.

This book is full of double hurt/comfort, on-page caretaking, tons of spice, and (sometimes cheesy) declarations of love.

I’m surprised this is a debut novel because the emotional and romantic aspects were so well done. The other men surrounding these MCs are also intriguing, and I wouldn’t mind reading more about them (Jordan, perhaps?). I don’t mean to sound condescending, but I often struggle with debut books. Not this one. And I’m so, so happy.

I received an ARC from the author but all opinions are my own and authentic!

Finally! I mean, I can see that Austin already acknowledging his feelings a little. And as for Liam, his actions speak more than words. Loved it.

These two are getting better and better. I love that it is not just pure erotica, but now, we also have their emotional side shown. How both are afraid of being found out, or not feeling enough/right for the other. But they are both deep in. And I love Liam's POV so much. There is strong D/s in this and Liam is rough but also so gentle and caring. Austin's inner thoughts about Liam in comparison to his past hook ups, was so vulnerable. I loved it. Even porn can make you feel.

The continuation was lovely. It is not just smut, but there are feels! There are doubts and insecurities. And it is also about these two and how they can keep in touch without anyone finding out about their relationship. The question is, when will they acknowledge any commitment?

Despite this being a short story, the characters have depth and you feel their longing (from one character more than the other). It was pure deliciousness. And I really loved the way Austin is portrayed. Quite refreshing.

An enjoyable read with intrigue, heat, and a reluctant mate.

I loved the prequel and can’t wait for the continuation of the love story between the shifter doctor and his shifter fighter.

In His Mate By Vengeance, we get a bodyguard and a vampire assassin. While I wished for a bit more description of the surroundings at times, the characters are well-portrayed. The spice was amazing—if you need strict roles, this won't be for you. But if you love interesting dynamics, unusual mating, and filthy talk, go for it! You’ll love it.

The action scenes were intense and there is some serious caretaking because of that.

It’s an enemies-to-lovers and grumpy/sunshine pairing, but I was surprised by how flirty Vin was towards others—I really felt for Angelo. It eventually worked for them, but I prefer when MCs flirt only with each other.

I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the next installment. The dynamics seem promising!

Everything I wished for—so much hurt/comfort and all the feels.

Despite this being an enemies-to-lovers story, there’s virtually no angst between the two. Yes, there are moments where Mark learns about Kyle’s boundaries and needs, and sometimes things go sideways, but otherwise, it’s filled with doting, protectiveness, and caretaking (I gobbled it all up!). The drama mostly comes from outside the relationship, but it’s never overwhelming.

The found family and how they find their HEA are nicely and realistically woven into the narrative.

Plus, the delicious spice had me melting.

This is definitely going on my favorites list because I’ll be re-reading it for sure.

Everything I wanted from an MM Stockholm syndrome book and more!

This book is definitely not a standalone. To fully understand the MCs, you have to read the previous book. And I really mean it. But "Out for Blood" is amazing, so why not? wink wink

This is a dark read, focusing on forced submission with the captor/captive dynamic. There are some kinks and interesting dynamics to explore. I love that their roles in bed are not set. The way their relationship develops is toxic, full of violence and humiliation, but I love these books where one MC breaks the other into their own personal slave/sub/pup.

Santiago was the villain in the previous book, and here, he is broken and tested. And I actually grew to like him. I think that he and Angel were made for each other.

Angel is a hard man but quickly develops a soft spot for Santiago and shows protectiveness when needed.

Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a forced submission book with dark mafia setting, and a satisfying HEA.
