Das ist das zweite Mal, dass ich dieses Buch lese. Beim ersten Mal müsste ich so alt gewesen sein wie Meggie es in der Geschichte ist. Zehn Jahre ist das jetzt her und deshalb waren meine Erwartungen nicht besondern hoch, mit zwölf hatte ich bei weitem nicht den besten allen Geschmäcker. Umso überwächter war ich, als ich das Buch von der ersten Seite an wieder geliebt habe! Es hat sich angefühlt, als würde ich an einen Ort zurückkehren, an den ich mich nur wage erinnern konnte, aber er schien trotzdem sicher und vertraut. Ich hab so viel Spaß gehabt mit diesem Buch. Ich fand die Geschichte schön, die Charaktere noch viel liebenswerter als früher (vor allem Mo, Elinor, Fenoglio und Basta) und Cornelia Funkes Schreibstil so wunderbar sympathisch, ich hab so oft angefangen zu kichern beim Lesen. Ich fand Staubfinger allerdings um einiges unsympathischer jetzt wo ich erwachsen bin.
Ich schreib diese Review zwei Tage nachdem ich das Buch beendet habe und ich muss zugeben, dass ich es jetzt schon vermisse...
Jetzt bin ich aber auf jeden Fall motiviert mich wieder an die ganze Reihe zu setzen!

Obwohl dieses Buch schon wirklich alt ist, hatte ich das Privileg kein bisschen über dieses Buch zu wissen. Ich habe weder von der Geschichte gehört noch den Film gesehen, also konnte ich das Buch komplett frisch aufnehmen und ich könnte nicht dankbarer darüber sein. Von Beginn an hat mich das Buch gepackt und nicht losgelassen. Die Version, die ich gelesen habe ist nicht genau die hier, ich hab meins second hand gekauft und die genaue Version nicht gefunden, aber ich hoffe die hier hat genauso schöne Illustrationen wie mein den wow, es ist lange her, dass ich ein so liebevoll illustriertes Buch gelesen habe. Trotz der (wahrscheinlich) orientalistischen Zügen dieses Buches, die definitiv kritisch zu betrachten sind, halte ich das Buch definitiv für lesenswert für jede Person und hoffe, dass es Lebensfreude bei allen die es lesen verbreiten kann, wie es das bei mir getan hat!

This book was a very easy and informative read, I feel like I gained a new perspective on what culture really means and how deeply rooted our societal morals are and how they shift over time. Especially the last two chapters blew me away. This is a great introduction into the wax sculptures, their use and place in culture and society at the time. Would definitely recommend to anyone who find the cover or topic even remotely interesting!

Like Andrew's other books this one had me hooked from the first second. The way he crafts these beautifully human characters and stories is absolutely beyond me. And again there was a point in the book where i thought I wouldn't be able to continue reading bc it all felt like too much, too horrible to endure and again he made it manageable.
Seeing trans teens just fight back so resiliently, so bravely and showing that it's nothing but surviving... it feels so good to acknowledge that.

This was the first time I've read a book with a main character or honestly any character that's aromamtic and omg it felt amazing. As someone who has been in a qpr seeing it written like this, even if it was sooo short it felt so so wonderful. I love Dallas to death. Ugh it felt so healing to read this as a communist trans guy
