The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

cautionary tale about how pretty and youthful white boys harbor evil, grotesque souls that cannot be saved by any amount of opium or repentance
(well written and definitely had its moments as a beloved classic, but i’m knocking a star off because most of the time while i was reading i truly just did not gaf 😭)

I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman

Is there a satisfaction in the effort of remembering that provides its own nourishment, and is what one recollects less important than the act of remembering? That is another question that will remain unanswered: I feel as though I am made of nothing else.
this book made me want to cry until i puke and pass out and wake back up to cry until i puke again. the only thing i didn’t really enjoy was how much you don’t know and how many of the questions really do go unanswered by the end. i think the ambiguity was the point since the focus was on the experiences tied to humanity and community and love, but i really would have liked to know more
