Reading this book will at least make you feel a bit trapped and helpless. The author skillfully creates a sense of dread and claustrophobia as Johnny, the protagonist, follows a puppet into the walls of his missing grandfather's apartment, where he encounters a nightmare of puppet-infested corridors and rooms. The story is tense and suspenseful, keeping me on the edge of my seat as I wondered what horrors awaited Johnny in the dark. I was a bit frustrated with Johnny for his reckless and foolish decisions, but I also sympathized with his desperation and hope to find his grandfather alive. Right now I'm left to imagine the chaos that the escaped puppets will cause outside of the apartment.

Even after knowing what's about to happen, I still had hoped that there will at least be a survivor, but that was just me being too optimistic. The ending only showed the futility of their struggle as the nature still won at the end. A great read as it grossed me out at times too! It also made me question the origin or purpose of the vines, as it's not stated on the book and will remain a mystery to us readers.

A great and informative read! This is the 3rd Preston book I've read so far since I'm trying to read all of the books in his Dark Biology series. As usual, it is very well-researched and provided us a detailed account of the history of bioweapons and epidemic diseases.

A highly recommended book if you're someone who's interested in bioterrorism and epidemic diseases.
