miss marx needs to cut to the chase - we need a classless state with universal property. period, exclamation point, no comma.

black's writing flows well and her re-imagining of Faerie world is so lush and charming but i don't like the MC at all lol she's way too ravenous for power in a world that has constantly harmed her. i don't like the enemies to lover progression either (even though it's my fave trope) but it's a very enchanting, drama-driven read !

why does everyone like this book as if it's a masterpiece of dark academia? i enjoyed Awad's first novel (she seems to have a flair for satirizing feminine conformity and isolation) but this novel was too blunt and heavy-handed with "alternative culture." the plot twists were great! very dangerous blend of reality and imagination but i had to get to 100 pages to even be interested in this book

everyone needs to read this book about sex workers from the perspective of sex workers!! it gets repetitive at times but we need to protect the most marginalized in our society (esp black/indigenous SWs)

beautiful sci-fi story, a telling of the power of nature over evil corporations, as well as the strangest mix of characters -
a resilient black woman born in another Earth, a strange biotech creature who can morph at will and a man who may or may not be biotech
i loved this book, although i didn't enjoy reading Annihilation by the same author.

too many historical details for me but there were many insights throughout the text even while skimming
