This entry in the Vampire Academy series has a different flavour to it, and I found myself half the time feeling like I knew exactly what was going to happen and the other half totally surprized. I quite enjoyed that it was set somewhere different and getting to see different places and society structures within this world. It's the first time though that I have a pretty strong sense at where the rest of the series is going to go. That Rose, she's been through so much! Can't wait to get book 5!

This one is totally different than expected. Lots of juxtapostion of everything from religion to science to sex and seduction. I almost stopped reading it but it got to a place where I'm very curious to where it's going to g. The language ranges from provocative to down right dirty. It's totally weird to see a world that crawls also S&M culture beside religious systems.

Had to return to library before finishing! On page 175

After hiatus:

Got back into the swing of this one pretty quickly, but was a bit of pushing through because I mostly wanted to know what happened over connecting to the characters and world. I think it's one of those things that if it gets you, it gets you but for me the crass-ish language pushed me out just when it was going to draw me in, and the themes of exploring damnation/fear/desire are not really my thing. Totally feels like it's for people who had deep ridden religious believes, but have rebelled and embraced all things you aren't 'suppose' to.

I admit to speed reading this, I got a little fed up with the series around book 4 or 5, but I still wanted to finish it off and liked some of the characters.

But.

BUT.
Big spoiler inc. Biggest spoiler you can get.

To have the last line, of the seventh (and at one point supposidly last book) of the series to end with 'this is just the beginning'. Are you serious? I just read 7 books to finish on this is just the beginning?

It makes me sad because there are so many things that I've liked about the series, the magical elements, the matriarch society, even some of the evil characters are great. But what I would have really liked at book 7, was some *closure*.

I almost gave up on this series but I'm glad I stuck with it as I quite enjoyed this installment being and it's focus on dealing with Ever's actions and decisions made up until this point. I wish there was a bit more content, although on the other hand it's refreshing to snag a 300-ish page read. I wish there was a bit more on the Jude character and with what's going on with Haven, but overall was happily surpzed.
