Hillary is at a crossroads in life, at 27 years old she has been waitressing at a restaurant for years (when it was meant to be a temporary job) until she decided what her next steps were. Determined to figure out what her dream job is, she gives her two weeks notice (much to her best friend and roommates surprise) without having another job lined up.

It’s while Hillary is at the pool doing laps at her apartment complex that she meets Jayden “Jay” Monroe. Jay with his colorful tattooed sleeve, and iPod always on catches Hillary’s attention. The two hit it off and make plans for a “date” to meet up at the pool again. Hillary goes all out, buying a new suit and putting extra effort into her appearance. Jay joins with his faithful iPod in hand and the two listen to his music. When Jay doesn’t answer Hillary’s question, she realizes he is asleep. Offended and disappointed, Hillary heads back to her apartment telling herself that her hopeful thoughts of romance with Jay were long gone.

Not having Hillary’s number to apologize, Jay goes to the pool after work in hopes of spotting Hillary to apologize and explain. After literally making Jay sweat and burn it out Hillary listens to Jay’s apology. He explains to Hillary that he doesn’t sleep well at all, that he can’t turn his brain off and he was sleeping at the pool until midnight when his friend came to find him. Jay convinces Hillary to go on an actual date with him, the sparks fly and their connection is undeniable.

Jay tells Hillary very early on that he has ADHD, and it can ruin his relationships. Hillary, not truly understanding the significance of his diagnosis and how it impacts his life and all of those around him, simply shrugs it off thinking “it can’t be that bad.”

Jay’s routine, OCD, anxiety, and outbursts that are all a result of his ADHD pose challenge after challenge in their relationship. Hillary catches Jay in several “white lies,” and struggles to understand why Jay does the things he does, and if she can accept him as he is because as she learns, the things that they struggle and fight over will most likely happen for the rest of their relationship.

As the wife of a beautiful and brilliant man with ADHD, this story hit me in alllll the feels. I’ve never felt more connected to two characters in my life (and that says a lot because I love Kate’s characters). The relationships and challenges in this book go far beyond Jay and Hillary, but the love and support they all show is amazing. I especially loved Dr. Sawyer and his “tough love” approach with Hillary. It was as if Dr. Sawyer was talking to me and telling me all the things I needed to know about my own relationship with my husband. What a beautiful reminder of how those with ADHD love so hardly that they allow us into their world, and for those that love them, who want nothing more than their loved one to feel safe and comfortable in a world that can often be cruel.

Super cute book. Huxley is a billionaire who always gets what he wants. For the first time in his professional career he is in jeopardy of not closing a deal. Unable to perceive why, his brothers (and business partners) tell him that he can be unapproachable, and that there are people who want to see who a person is beyond business. Huxley struggles with this concept, but a chance lunch encounter with the man he is hoping to close the deal with finds him sharing that he too has a pregnant fiancé.

Lottie has been burned by her on and off again best friend Angela. She has helped her build her business on a tiny salary with the promise from Angela that she will receive a promotion along with triple her salary if her business grows. Lottie more than delivers, but Angela ends up firing her. She also has to attend their high school reunion knowing Angela can’t wait to make her feel even smaller. Refusing to hear “I told you so” from her loving mother and step-father (who knew that Angela was taking their daughter for granted)Lottie seeks out to find a rich husband. Much to her sister’s amusement, Lottie literally bumps into Hux while she is lost on her walk.  Unable to stop herself, Lottie shares with Hux her mission to find a rich husband, and Hux shares his need to close a business deal with a pregnant fiancée at his side. Contracts, NDA’s and growing pains ensue as the two try to get through this arrangement without killing the other. However, after Lottie is about to throw in the towel on their deal due to Hux’s grumpy and hot/cold moods, they discover that trust is important to both of them, and they need the other to earn that trust for this to work. They begin asking each other questions  (2 during the day, and 2 at dinner) and they get to know each other. They both find that their “pretending” to be couple is not so challenging, but question if the other feels the same, and what happens after their contract is over.
