This was the holiday reading assignment for school, and even though we only had to read the first two chapters, I decided just to read it all! I enjoyed it a lot, which sort of surprised me, but there were some really nice bits of prose and characters traits that I really loved! Wasn't what I would call a 'light read' especially if long chapters are for you as they are for me: the bane of your existence.
I think this book is an incredibly crafted book, but I would say that it's a very particular kind of weird that's kind of difficult to enjoy if you're not ready for a bit of weird nonsense that's a fair amount of confusing. Vandermeer wrote a breathtaking novel here, but it's absolutely NOT commercial sci-fi / dystopian, and it's a bit if a fever dream
