No it's not a structured review, it's a rant.
Oh and this book basically says men are horrible (they are) So kindly don't read it if you are a misogynistic, narcissistic, conservative, and dumb man, may hurt your feelings *cough cough your ego*
If I give this book one star for every issue it covered about Indian society, about the patriarchy, the treatment of women, the caste system, the misogyny, the toxic masculinity *deep breath* THE AUDACITY AND THE ANGER AND THE FRUSTRATION AND THE FEAR, this book would probably have like a hundred stars here.
THE WAY THIS BOOK HANDLES ABUSE??????!!!! OH MY GOD I JUST-
Just read this ok?
The abuse is so fcking normalised it's not even noticeable anymore!! And this books screams that! I Love this book ok?
There is not a single thing I can point out as problematic or wrong or boring in this book, and as an Indian this book makes me so happy yet so frustrated and sad and angry all at the same time. The cultural references and the setting of the book, I could immediately tell where and when the book was set, without a single mention of the place and time.
The love how the author just- points out the over-glorified and problematic tale of Ramayana and all the issues that prevailed in the society then *cough cough and now*
The characters are strong independent women. (as independent as a woman can get in a patriarchy anyway :( ) And while they don't lead a revolution and kill everyone who has ever wronged a woman (I wish) they do some pretty......interesting things.
If you have not read this book. Go read it. JUST GO READ IT OK?????

“When the twins were sixteen, Priya’s spurned suitor tossed acid on the wrong sister. Preity’s face had healed. Two years later, the man married Preity with her parents’ consent. Who else would have her?”

“Did you fight?”
“Of course.” But he knew Geeta’s mind, he must have, because he added, “Never physical, though.”
“Don’t you all hit once in a while? It’s not beating, not really.”
Karem paused. “Yes, it is. ”
