Greatly admired Makkai upkeeping respect for those with AIDS and not making things a tragic spectacle car crash. I struggled to connect with the characters emotionally. A friend did tell me I reminded him of Yale when he recommended me this book.

Good book, lots of great writing and I really liked how Ma omitted quotation marks, but I felt it was a bit heavy handed at times and, while i understand what Ma was going for with the ending (
Candace takes off walking once more, like how she used to wander in her early 20s, untethered to a job or to anyone really
), it felt too abrupt.
