Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis

Second Chance Summer is the first book of Jill Shalvis's new series, Cedar Ridge. As I keep saying it that I love Jill Shalvis, there was no surprise when I picked this book as soon as it was released. And it was indeed a great read!

Jill Shalvis has a knack of creating these perfect, adorable towns. Like Lucky Harbor, I fell in love with this town Cedar Ridge based in Colorado.

Lily Danville has returned to Cedar Ridge after a decade. When some tragic occur accidents in her life Lily can't cope up with those and she gives up living in the town and goes to San Diego. When she runs into trouble there and is out of job, after ten years she is forced to return to Cedar Ridge as her friend Jonathan offers her a job.

Aidan Kincaid is a firefighter and volunteers for the local Search-and-Rescue team. He lives with his family in his family's Cedar Ridge Resort. The resort is struggling so he and his brothers are doing everything to save the family resort. He is very protective of his family. Aidan always had a thing for Lily but when she left town abruptly he was hurt, so when she returns to town, he tries to keep his distance from her and not get too emotionally involved but he can't stop himself from wanting to help and protect Lily.

Lily always had a crush on Aidan but due to some misunderstandings, she wants to keep distance but it doesn't happen that way of course. Her encounters with Aidan are pretty funny too. But they have great chemistry and so they can't stay away from each other. After some communication everything works out in the end.

I loved the story. Aidan and Lily were great, I quite liked Aidan's family as well. It was a great start to the series. I am looking forward to the next book. If you are looking for a Jill Shalvis book to read, Second Chance Summer is for you.

Some of my favourite quotes:

*
“He remembered kissing her… falling for her.

Then how she’d left the mountain without looking back, forgetting about him with shocking, heartbreaking ease.

Now she was back. And she’d kissed him like maybe she hadn’t forgotten him after all...”

*
“You’re not a job to me, Lily. Not even close. You’re more. And I think I’m more to you too. I think it’s not that you don’t feel anything, it’s that you feel too much. I scare you.”

*
“There were some men who just knew how to kiss, the kind of kiss that could send a woman reeling. The kind of kiss that could take away problems and awareness and … and everything. The kind of kiss that could shatter her into a trillion little pieces. The kind of kiss that somehow both calmed her body and soul even as it wound her up for more. Aidan was that kind of kisser.”

Nobody But You by Jill Shalvis

4.0

Nobody But You is the third instalment of Cedar Ridge series by my favourite author Jill Shalvis. JS can create really nice and cute little towns with which you will fall in love. Same thing happened with me with this series. I fell in love with all the characters of the Kincaid family members in the first book itself and fell more in the second book. We don't meet Jacob earlier but we come know of him in the previous books.

Jacob is Hudson's twin brother. And due to some arguments and different views of the world they separate ad different ways. Hudson staying with the family and Jacob ending up in the army. Jacob is now back after years of being away. And he doesn't how to go back to his family. But on his first day back he meets our heroine who is trying to "park" her boat or moor it. And yes, she doesn't know anything about boats. But due to some circumstances she ends up on a boat.

Sophie Marren is a sweet woman who has been burned by her cheating ex husband. She is trying to get on with her life, which is turning out to be difficult as she gave everything up for her ex and in return she gets nothing. I liked how the heroine was very hard working and never quits.

Jacob and Sophie have a great chemistry. They decide to live in the moment and enjoy each other's company and slowly they fall for each other without realising it and also not knowing what to do with it. Jacob has some trouble accepting his feelings for Sophie because he is scared of losing people due to some heart breaking incidents taking place when he was in the army. Sophie understood all that and didn't give up on Jacob easily and she made him feel better too by arranging some meet up for veterans at the resort in the end. That part was my favourite. Jacob also helps Sophie out a lot that was very sweet. While I liked their story but Hudson and Bailey remain my favourite couple. In fact, I liked Aidan and Lily's story better too.

Jacob has some difficulties going to his family in the beginning but in the end Kincaids make it work. He buys a cabin in the town and starts helping his family out with the resort stuff and he slowly becomes a part of the family. I loved how everybody in the family welcomes him with open arms and accept him without any doubts or resentment. They're all very sweet. I loved meeting all the previous characters.

Some of my favourite quotes:

Not that she'd run here from the lake. Nope, the only time Sophie did any running was if a bear was chasing her, and that hardly ever happened.
*
“He was a smart enough guy to get that she was the one for him. He was also smart enough to know that he was going to have to work his ass off for it.”
*
“I can't think in your presence."
"Why not?"
"Because looking at you is like..." She tossed up her hands. "It's like walking down the chips and cookie aisle at the grocery store. I can't resist you, and then I'll forget why you're bad for me.”
