The Voice in My Head by Dana L. Davis

I mildly enjoyed this read. It was paced and interesting enough to keep me intrigued but I also found myself hating a lot of it. One the characters are black and have a super toxic family dynamic that goes unchecked and the only positive character is a god fearing Christian teenager and a pastor that is a white man. In addition to those tropes being portrayed the family is supremely elitist and gives me colorist vibes. I think the theme could have been achieved without the toxicity and the elitism.

I am interested in the next book but I feel like it took so long to get to some kind of understanding in this book. It was honestly such a boring book in the beginning and I found myself putting it down so often.
Maybe it was more boring because I anticipated the book to be extra good and gripping being that it’s title was whispered all over BookCon when it released. Now that I finally have read the book I just feel like it was blehh.
