I almost DNF’ed this but I was at 70% and decided to keep going.

The characters don’t get together until the last few chapters of the book. Worse than that, their dynamic was so forced and brooding. I feel like the author wanted a Hades/Rhysand type mmc and it just didn’t work.

This book is nothing like the first book. It felt like there were too many plot points to keep track of. The main rhythm from
the first book was completely lost. I read 73% of the book and then gave up. I’m honestly not certain it was worth reading to resolve the cliffhanger ending from the previous book.

I didn’t want to like this book. I felt guilty and slimy for even reading it. But the story is incredibly engaging and had me on the edge of my seat. I am not a horror fan but I enjoyed this book. Now I have to go read the second book to see how all of this plays out…
