It's rare that I finish a book in 24 hours but this book was just what I needed after reading a not so great book. I really enjoyed it and the cuteness between Elsie and Jameson. I also really like how Jameson and Elsie felt like real people. Sometimes with romance books the characters don't feel rounded or fleshed out. I do wish we would have see more of the history between Elsie and her parents since it affected her so much.

It's also really nice to read a romance with no smut. I feel like a lot of romance authors like to throw in spice and smut because they think fans want it because of TikTok and Instagram trends. While I do like spice, sometimes I just want a clean romance that focuses more on the relationships.

I wanted to love this book but it fell short for me. I feel like there were times when it dragged. I found myself at the middle and near the end of the book just thinking "get to the point already!!!" There were times when it felt really long winded and drawn out for no reason. This book probably could have been 150-200 pages shorter. Also, the world building I found severely lacking. It talked about the dragons becoming moons when they die. The dragons fly up and calcify. But I couldn't figure out how far up they were? It seems unrealistic (even for a fantasy book) that they'd be up in space... Also, the book mentioned different creatures several different times but didn't elaborate on any of the species or how they all operate and interact with each other. They were each mentioned briefly and never again. Also, the magic system... it really needs some fleshing out. The power of the "creators" made sense but the other abilities that allowed for mending and mind reading... where do those come from? I feel like if the author spent less time describing the locations in strong, superfluous details we maybe could have been told more about the things that matter to the world and the magic.

***MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD***

I also felt that Kaan and Reave made no real progress in their relationship. Like, Reave didn't really open up to Kaan at all. I found that a bit of a waste. And I get leaving some things open for the next books in the series but I would have loved a little something, even a crumb, on "The Other."

TL:DR - This book spent too much time concentrating on minor things that don't matter and not enough on the world building and magic system and relationships.

I really enjoyed this book but it wasn't well written. To start off with, this takes places around late 1920s. The language from the characters were way too modern for the time period. Also, some of the dialogue, especially early on, felt inorganic and out of place. And the build up to Danya and Ilya living together was so fast it pratically gave me whiplash. Also, the world building was nonexistent. We learned very little about the enternal night and eternal day and how they work or play off each other. We also didnt learn anything about the magic or how it works. There were also several things that were thrown in out of convenience. Like a cliff in town. It wasn't mentioned or brought up until there was a purpose for it. I rememver thinking, "where the hell did this cliff come from?"

That being said, I really enjoyed the 2 main characters and their relationship. Its a 3.75 star book for me but I also realize the issues with I the writing.

I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. And I loved all the references to Irish and Celtic folklore. However, it felt like all the characters outside of Fia were just plot devices instead of their own individual people. It made it hard to root for anything or anyone when no one felt real.
