Phew this was a slog.... It took me 3 months to read this tiny book. Really thought this series was a duology and tbh it should have been because this had no significant developments.

This book broke me out of a reading slump. It was so cosy to be back in the multiple London's and with these characters, and to meet the awesome new ones along the way.

The first in a new trilogy, Threads does a lot of work to establish a new plot line, fill in seven years of time gap, reveal a threat to the crown and weave all these POVs together in a way that is balanced, engaging and always with enough pace that you feel like it's building to something.

There was only one section where I felt a little slow due to it needing to fill in some new character history right as a crucial midbook cliffhanger had been revealed, leaving me wanting to continue with the current timeline action not flashback. However this wasn't a long section and I think it's relevance will become increasingly important in the next installment.

The plot then built back up into a great convergence of the characters, with some great battles and surprising revelations to end. I'm so looking forward to seeing what Schwab does next in this world.

Anyone who is concerned about coming back to London after so long away, or who wants to start here first, doesn't need to worry as V has put a lot of thought and craft into bringing you back in smoothly, whilst also really showing confidence in her writing and how her storytelling has improved over her career.

A fantastic start to a new series in this world.

Another fantastic cosy read. I expected this to be a sequel but it's a prequel that introduces some wonderful new characters and friendships set in a small town where Viv helps a bookstore owner whilst she recovers from an injury that prevents her from continuing with her mercenary life. Along the way they get mixed up with a necromancer.

Very cute, very fun read.
