I loved this so much. It was funny and interesting and extremely well written. Not only were the characters deep and relatable, the mystery kept me guessing until the very end. Great book.

I was scared going into this book that it wouldn’t be as good as SOC but I was not disappointed. As well as a captivating and beautiful story there was great character development. It kept me on my toes while asp managing to make me laugh. Incredible

I’m going to be honest and say that I don’t usually read YA novels, but when I saw this book on Netgalley I was taken in by the gorgeous cover and quirky blurb. Big thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for approving me to read this ARC.

So yes, the cover is pretty, but how was the book? I really enjoyed Anna Gracia’s writing style. It was simple while still being able to convey her characters’ more complex emotions. When I say this book is written well, I mean that it was easy and enjoyable to read while not feeling like it was written by a primary school student doing a creative writing assignment. I think Gracia balanced her darker and more complex themes well with humorous and relatable writing anyone can enjoy.

While the plot of this book wasn’t overly exciting or engaging, it still managed to captivate me enough to get it finished in a few days. I believe that it was a very good representation of the life of a teenager and that it handled the concept of being biracial in a largely caucasian environment very well. In my experience, biracial characters can be very hit and miss when it comes to how they are written, however, I think Gracia crafted her character perfectly in this regard. In saying this, some more focus on our surrounding characters would have created a greater depth to the story.

Overall, this book was enjoyable. Don’t read too much into that, as I wouldn’t describe this book as bad in any way, but it didn’t wow me either. I gave it 3/5 stars, and would recommend it to YA and domestic fiction lovers and teenagers 14+.

this book was so interesting and entertaining. i was worried it would be hard to get through because it’s so long but i absolutely loved it. not only does it teach you about native american culture but it also keeps you gripped the entire time.
