The audacity of this book to actually make me enjoy the accidental pregnancy trope. This was such a lovely romance and I found myself rooting for the two of them in a way that made it all feel so real.
slow-paced
The illustrations are beautiful but the plot is really slow and sometimes a little convoluted. The age gap discourse was done in a way that felt weird to me and didn’t add to the story in an effective way. I wish it was done better.
I love pirates! This was so much fun and the chemistry between these two was wonderful. Clare’s children mean so much to her and the way Dominic makes it his ultimate mission to save them was so beautiful.

I love being a hater and June was the perfect vessel for my hatred this week.
I liked this more than the first book but the third act breakup was awful in this one too. I think the stakes are just nonexistent for most of it and the way the female MC’s brown skin and constant empanada craving is described felt fetishy.
As a friends to lovers apologist, I really wanted to love this book but there just wasn’t much tension and it had one of the worst third act breakups I’ve ever encountered. The shining stars of this story were the community. I like this tiny town and I’ve heard that the series gets better with the other romances so I’m hoping to enjoy the next book a lot more.
This is the kind of book that’s best when read with others and I’m glad I had people to talk to while reading it. There is so much heaviness in this world yet the characters are extremely desensitized to it all. It’s scary to see how much of this is our potential future or already here in our present.
I reread this to spark some childhood whimsy and joy and it worked.
This was so steamy! I love the spy storyline and the gentleman’s club was such a fun subplot.
dark
This was very different from the other books in the series and that’s something I love about the Singing Hills Cycle. Nghi Vo has such an amazing range and this just makes me want to read her novels now.
