I randomly stumbled across this on Hoopla and I’m so glad I did. The illustrations were gorgeous! I really enjoyed this start and I’m excited to see the world expanded in the next volume. The characters were compelling and I liked seeing the ways they interacted with each other. It was nice to see an amputee MC whose disability isn’t “healed” by the magic of her world.
I was looking for a quick read and found this on Hoopla. It was meta in a way that didn’t do much for me personally but I love this illustration style. I think the description gives away too much and it’s better to go in without reading it first.
I enjoyed this a lot more as I kept reading. It’s such an interesting concept and I think the way it’s carried out is very creative. This is the kind of book that made me think of Fleabag where the narrator isn’t some amazing hero but she’s so real, except in this case she is literally real.

This was such a heavy read and it took me nearly 2 months to get through it because of that. It deals with generational trauma, academia’s role in upholding the status quo, building support systems as an adult, and so much more. I love the way Yara continues to love her heritage while unlearning the toxic parts of her upbringing.
This was fun for what it was but the story is awkwardly paced and the relationships between the characters weren’t fleshed out very much. I’d say this is good for the younger side of middle grade.
This was one of the best poetry collections I’ve ever read and I just know it’ll have an impact on my own writing moving forward. Mosab Abu Toha has a way with words that cannot be overstated. These poems were moving and at times, breathtaking.
Finally got around to reading this and just as I expected, loved every single one of these poems.

I listened to all but the last ten minutes of the audiobook while on a long plane ride and it was such a perfect way to pass the time. Nikhil’s story has so many elements that would be incredibly relatable to middle schoolers and Maulik Pancholy captures that voice perfectly + he narrates the audiobook himself. This is definitely one to add to upper elementary and middle school classrooms and if you have a tween going through the awkward voice changes of puberty, this would make a perfect gift for them.
