Read this for my Creative Writing class and ended up really enjoying it. The stories were so riveting and I enjoyed the way that many of them were interconnected. The various themes were explored in such an interesting way and I learned a lot about writing through reading this.

This was so good! I love the slow burn romance and the characters were absolutely wonderful. The way that everything comes together was done really well.

This was so good! I learned so much while reading this and it definitely opened my eyes to how these children aren’t just immigrants, they’re refugees fleeing unsafe environments. I think this is something everyone should read!

I read this for my Identity in African American Literature class and it was very interesting. A stark reminded that I wouldn’t have survived slavery because if I had to go through all that, I would’ve just died.

I read this for my Visualizing Race in Film and Literature class and it was super interesting. The style was a little hard to get into at first but I ended up really enjoying it. I totally understand why my professor chose this book.

The story itself is so thought provoking and the way it portrays how Asian Americans are represented in media was very insightful.

So happy I finally got around to reading this one. It was great and definitely perfect for sparking conversations with kids about the prison system. Zoe was such a great character and definitely felt like a 12-year-old.

Read this for my creative writing class. It was very interesting. Definitely not something I would’ve picked up on my own but I do feel like I learned a lot from it. A lot of the writing was very experimental and dealt with difficult themes in a creative way.

This was such a great follow up to Dragons in a Bag! In this one we also get to see Indian culture and I learned about Indians of African descent. I would love for this to continue on as a full series because I can’t get enough of Jax and this magical world.

This was so good! I love the whimsy and there’s also some informational things throughout so kids are learning as they read. It’s really nice seeing Black characters in this magical world and the hair braiding scene was really #fortheculture, I love it! This would be a perfect book for kids who love The Magic Treehouse series.
