A friend recommended this book to me and it’s a fantastic scary read about indigenous families, nightmares, and the power of connection.  A Cree woman, Mackenzie, starts having nightmares about her sister’s death, but when she wakes up having brought a crow feather back into reality from her dreams she knows that she’s got to reach out for some help.  But she put distance between herself and her family after her sister died and it’s hard to go back home again.

This book was so evocative in the very best ways.  I really liked the blend of classic horror elements with modern realities.  Text messages from beyond the grave right along side creatures from traditional Cree stories.  There was literally a moment while I was listening to the audio book that I gasped aloud and jumped.  Such good vibes.  Jessica John’s debut is not to be missed and I will be looking forward to future stories from her!
