You can't just have a character go "sex is kind of like a video game" and expect me to take it seriously... This book was very shallow and the characters unlikeable. The
shooting towards the end of the book
had the tone of an especially preachy episode of Law and Order SVU. In that way it shares the artifice of media that "wants to talk about social issues" but fails to say anything at all.

The scene where Sam says that playing Donkey Kong is kind of like the opposite of the time a woman killed herself in front of him and his mother actually made me laugh out loud.

This is THE stupidest book I’ve ever loved. Realistically it deserves like one star and a half, but I must be honest with myself.

For maximum mental torture, do what I accidentally did and happen to be listening to the Oryx’s childhood chapter while driving through a rainstorm. Extra points if you have a pathological fear of driving in rain and have been doing sort of mentally bad in recent months LOL.

Anyways, great book, Margaret holds so many terrible worlds in her mind. Such awful and believable portents of the future. Queen of the feel-bad novel.

This was a sweet book, cozy to a fault. May be more of a personal character flaw that I have a hard time staying engaged with books like this. Worth reading, very short and lovely and is likely a comforting read for many.
