What a fun and original take on the story of Dr Jekyll and mr Hyde! I loved the cast of characters. That was a delicious read.

This book is perfect! Creepy and cute and so much fun. The characters are so unique. I also love the voice and of course, the amazing illustrations.

When I got the book I hadn't realised it's a novelisation of a film. It does feel more like a fleshed out film script rather than a novel. A lot of moments in the story would translate better on screen; in the book they don't always hit right. There's also a lot of POV head-hopping, which makes it hard to follow sometimes.
I enjoyed most of the story, the sense of humour and loved the characters. The only two things I didn't like were that this book has actually a lot of sad stuff, when I was expecting a comedy (hello the fun cover and back blurb?) - and that the end isn't really there. I was expecting a more satisfying resolution.

I loved the concept but the exectution not so much. Shame. I really wanted to like this book. The story seemed lacking and the heavy handed virtue signalling is a bit annoying (but hey, that's my personal taste). I found the characters flat and same-ish and the dialogues confusing.
What I liked the most in this book, apart from the concept, were: Henrietta, the chicken; Brittlyn's death by poisoning and the bits of comedy weaved in the story.

This book is perfect. I found Alexa Donne through her Youtube channel and bought her books.
I was reluctant to read this one as it's meant to be Jane Eyre in Space, and Jane Eyre is one of my favourite books of all time. I though I wouldn't be able to enjoy Brightly Burning without comparing it to the original.
But how wrong I was. I loved it so much!
Brightly Burning is one of those books that's just a lot of fun to read. I think it stands on its own especially for the YA audience. I think Alexa did an amazing job, remaining faithful to Jane Eyre's main themes and storyline while telling the story in her own unique way. I especially liked the outer space setting, the new charachters and the strong commentary on class.
I love Alexa's writing and can't wait to read her other titles.

I love horror, esp comedy-horror and was very intrigued by the premise and the beautiful cover. The story is fun and it does what it says on the tin. I felt it took a bit too long to get started - the first hundred pages or so is just the girls queueing and details of the protagonist's friend's backstories. The book picks up pace in the last third. I enjoyed most the bits about the girls and their friends kicking ass and fighting the zombies.
