I might be missing something as to the popularity of this author's novels but for me the writing was really Elementary and one dimensional. I appreciate that it wasn't overly sexual but it swung too far the other way.
Flat characters. Really redundant phrasing. Uninspired. Not for me.

I really loved this book! It was well-written and the characters are very engaging. The story is not at all predictable and I found myself unsure of the outcome for the duration of reading, which is always the gold standard in fiction novels. This story touched on so many beautiful themes in a very original way. Love, loss, grieving, how humans protect themselves from trauma, friendship, family dynamics, and a lot more. They way these themes were addressed were never cliche, but give the reader a natural inclination to think over these themes in their own minds while they are reading and well after they have finished the book.
The writing is as strong as is the story telling. I felt that the writing-style got a touch muddled in the final chapters, but not enough to be a true distraction from the story as a whole.
I am excited to read more from this new author!

I've read the other books in this series and THE PLAN might well be my favorite! I cannot even say how thrilled I am that the lead female character lives with Anxiety Disorder. We need more lovable main characters living with mental health issues! My oldest child has GAD and this book actually helped me understand her difficulties.
Now, all that aside, this is a stunningly sweet romance with a very swoon-worthy leading man and the colorful cast of small town characters in this series. I adored this love story so much! I cannot wait for more in this series!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book was just okay for me. I found it difficult to connect with any of the characters and there was just no chemistry between the lead characters for me. The romance itself is both rushed, but also too slow.
I was missing a spark or some connection between the characters that didn't reach me while reading.
I love Smartypants Romance, but this title was not for me, sadly.

Let me start by saying this was an okay book. Some might really enjoy it. It fell really flat for me and the only way I can sum up my issues with it is this: FORCED.
I love, love, love that Smartypants romance makes an effort for inclusion across all lines! But the inclusive part of this story seems very forced. It's thrown in there for effect and to meet a quota. It just doesn't feel very natural. Also forced is the humor. The scene with the Ben-wa Balls was easy to spot a mile away and served absolutely no purpose to the story other than being shoved in for some forced antics...? Not only was it not funny for me, but it was also not plausible.
I'm sorry, but this book just didn't do it for me.
