The writing was mesmerizingly beautiful, the world-building was fantastic and intriguing, the characters were very interesting and lovely, and the plot was slow but with good payoff. And that ending!

The characters were far too unlikable, with selfish motives that end up getting the characters everything they want without much consequence. The anxiety portrayal falters in a lot of places, and the ending was very anticlimactic.
