This is a very well written book. However it could have been about 100 pages shorter and less graphic.

If I were to look at this story as just a simple little light romance story I would probably give this novel 4 stars. It's nice, endearing, and shares a good message. The writing was great and the story- if you ignore the facts- was great.

However, the author played fast and loose with some well documented Lutheran facts. Luther and Katharina's marriage was a mixture of convenience and admiration not the teenybopper instalove that is characterized in the book. Some of the side stories were not necessary the Peasant Revolts and Luther's life was already dramatic enough without adding devices just to increase plot tension. Katharina was supposedly a spitfire which would have created enough tension. The Aunt Lena side story and Kate being kidnapped were a little over the top. Luther did come to greatly rely on, love, and esteem Katharina and she played an instrumental role in his work.

Again if you are not familiar with the history of Martin Luther this was an excellent book. If you read it I hope you become interested in the Message that he preached. If you are familiar with Luther and want to know more about his life with Katharina von Bora that read [b:Kitty, My Rib: The Heartwarming Story of a Woman of Courage and Devotion|1852481|Kitty, My Rib The Heartwarming Story of a Woman of Courage and Devotion|E.
