But no, seriously, Dorian was such a sweetheart. I loved him so much. And I love it when both characters are just so soft for and with each other; it's secretly one of my favorite micro tropes. I also really loved Daisy's character. She was so sweet and caring while also having this inner strength that was really admirable. I thought this novel really pulled off the yearning that these characters feel for each other. I could feel it constantly throughout, and I was completely in the story with them.
Another thing I loved was Ezra's character. I found him a great addition, and I found that I also enjoyed the care and softness that he had for both Dorian as his patient and Daisy as his friend really endearing.
I ended up reading this in one sitting, and I have zero regrets. Super sweet but also somewhat dark story with a sweet HEA. Please go read if you're interested, it truly was a great time.
Overall, this book was a good start to the series. I definitely agree that it is very much a book that was written to set up the rest of the series. So I do think it's weak in that way. But, that didn't necessarily make it bad and it was important to set up the friendship dynamics and establish mysteries and such. The book was really slow for me up until the last 100-ish pages and then it picked up and I really found myself turning pages. I feel like now that we've set up what needs to be done and what we can start to discover the mysteries of, the next books will be better. At least, that's what I'm hoping lol. Overall, I didn't think this book was bad, but it also wasn't the page-turner I was hoping for. But I'm definitely continuing the series because I do really enjoy our characters and I like the romance that's being set up for later books.
I enjoyed myself a lot reading this book and that enjoyment was increased due to the fact that I read it in the order it's supposed to be read in with the rest of the Nyaxia series. I thought this really gave a lot of information and set up for things that happen in later books within the series. I actually can't believe that this is technically optional reading.
But something that also shined in this book aside from the plot, were the characters! Since this was the first time we're really seeing the bloodborn vamps in a vulnerable way this allows us to see behind the curtain a little and makes me really excited for books 5 and 6 (not that I wasn't already excited before because I love Septimus).
This was an interesting prequel to the series and I enjoyed the writing style. I always appreciate when an author makes an effort to differentiate between people groups in a fantasy world and I thought this was done in an interesting and thoughtful way. Very excited to officially start this series!
This book was sick, twisted, and at times quite disgusting. But, with that comes an incredibly interesting story set against the backdrop of the aids epidemic which calls you to acknowledge the many ways the horrible things that take place in this book can be put into conversation with the treatment and the feelings that were being experienced within the queer community at this time.
This is my second time trying to read this book, and this is my second time DNF-ing it bc the fmc is too fucking stupid. I’m interested in the last one tho so I will try with this series again.
