The Gardener by S.A. Bodeen
4.0
I was very pleasantly surprised by this book! After reading The Compound a LONG time ago I knew how crazy and messed up SA Bodeen's writing could get, and I loved it. I also love that our main character is a person of color, something I was pleasantly surprised by and also something we don't see enough in science fiction!! I loved Mason as well as the story line and the ending left me wanting more!
Obviously, this is a middle grade novel, and you can definitely tell. But ultimately this book kept me interested until the very end and that's what I look for.

Speak: The Graphic Novel by Laurie Halse Anderson
5.0
I read Speak at a rough time in my life. When I found out it was becoming a graphic novel, I jumped at the chance to be able to experience one of my favorite books in a new way. I'm so happy I finally picked this up and I'm still mad at myself that it took me so long! During reading, I noticed that LHA changed some things to fit the format, and that it's in an updated time! This one takes place during present time, while the first book was written in 1999. I was glad to see that, since I feel like kids now will relate to it more. I say that like I'm not 18, but, y'know.
I absolutely loved this and feel like it's a different experience from the novel. If you didn't like the novel, I highly recommend giving this a shot instead.
