“Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human.”

Quotes like this are why I love V. E. Schwab's books. This was the first book that I read by her, and I loved it! I prefer fast paced novels that have action, and all of V. E. Schwab's books have delivered. Reading this book honestly felt like watching a movie.
V. E. Schwab always manages to question morals and blur the line between good and evil all while providing a great plot, which makes her characters more relatable as well as realistic. Stories that explore alternatives to the black and white good and evil are stories that I want to read, especially if it isn't immediately obvious who the villain is. Eli is the villain in this book, though it's understood why he's the villain, and how he got to that point.
I'm looking forward to the sequel, because I loved these characters and this world and want to read more!
