Read the book. It’s so good! No notes at the moment.
Heavy book based on real life events. Reading about these topics is very difficult but it’s sometimes necessary to remind ourselves of a time before. Which honestly, still happens but that’s a different conversation.
Take your time with this one.

This book did great in bringing us into this world. Some things were confusing, like the doors situation, but I’m sure most of the questions will be answered with the next book.
I did an immersive reading which really helped because the narrator didn’t distinguish between the female characters enough for me.
Will be reading the next book

The mental health representation, as someone who suffers from anxiety, was great.
My favorite was the writing of the letters. It was so wholesome and really cemented their connection.
A lot goes on in this one so please check triggers/content

Take my opinion as someone who dabbles in mystery/thriller reads.
It was well written and the pacing was consistent. I love the story and representation. It’s a solid read; but I can’t remember much of it days later. There wasn’t much that really stuck with me.

First half of book gives horror, PG version of Blink Twice. Second half is the good part. Taino mythology really shines and is reminiscent of Avatar.
Entire book is rooted in the colonialism of the Caribbean

I’m unsure with this one.
I absolutely love the magic system and the Chinese mythology. It’s a great story, but sometimes it felt off. Some choices didn’t make sense so I was a little confused.
Overall it was a good read

Elizabeth Acevedo is just magic. I don’t even know what to say other than it’s an emotional ride with so much depth.

It’s not bad, but it wasn’t really giving. It felt like so much happened but nothing happened. I think it’s because I’m so used to an emotional connection to a read that I didn’t feel that with this one.
Like I said it’s not a bad book, especially for starting the trilogy, so I’ll be continuing with the series. I’m a Zoraida fan

I love this book just as much as I loved Honey & Spice. Kiki & Malakai are it for me. I love everything about them!
Super emotional, deep, and I have no notes
