This book was quite lovely. All of the characters were so well rounded. Nathaniel especially had my heart, as he was super relatable. The depiction of parental abuse, and how difficult it can be to accept is actually happening, was quite gutting. Plus he was ace, and being pressured into a marriage he knew he could never want. It was just so good. Also, there were lesbians.

There were quite a few elements that fell flat for me (mainly all the big climactic moments) as there were several flaws in logic/plot holes I had a hard time getting past. Plot wise, it fell to two stars. But writing wise, it definitely sits at 5. Thor's prose is so lyrical and gut wrenching that I was nearly drawn to tears on multiple occasions. I wished for a paper copy tat I could annotate, and if I'd had one, it would be filled with highlights. But the plot issues are just too major to give more than three. If you don't mind suspension of disbelief and need more sci-fi aces and lesbians, read this!
